Avon is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Avon was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1519. He named it "Vernonia" after his mentor, Verno de' Rossi, who had been sent to America by Pope Leo XIII to explore and missionaryize the new land. The town began as a small log cabin community on the banks of the Mahoning River near where it currently stands. In 1824, Avon's first store opened and soon became one of the most important in town. It wasn't until 1868 thatAvon electric lights were installed and this meant that businesses could open up and begin doing business with more efficiency and accuracy than ever before! In 1870 Avon lost its status as a rural hamlet when it became part of Cleveland's city limits. However, thanks to various investments by local businessmen such as George Houghton (founder of Procter & Gamble) and others over time,Avon regained some degree of autonomy and prosperity once again within city limits through economic development initiatives like nightlights forresidential buildings (1880), paved roads (1910),and many other projects that continue to this day!

Avon, Ohio is a village in the Ottawa County town of Westville. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It became a city in 2013. The first residents of Avon were farmers and their families who arrived from Vermont around 1825. By 1830, there were about fifty people living in Avon. In 1836, John Denton purchased land in what is now Avon from Colonel Nathaniel Lyon for $2,000 cash. In 1837, two brothers named Nicholas and George bought some more land from Denton and began to grow crops and build homes. They also hired out workers to do various tasks on their farm including irrigation work and raising chickens. In 1840, Nicholas built a schoolhouse which he used as his home until his death in 1865; it still stands today Peaceful Valley School District Number 3 has occupied it since 1896! In 1850, Amos Beecher founded Beecher Academyadults only school in America west of Philadelphia – this center still employs many teachers today! He donated land along with financial support to build the Lycoming Institute (now Scripps) which opened its doors on October 15th of that year! A high school was not established until 1951 when Westville High School adjacent to Main Street merged with nearby East Liverpool High School! During World War II, Avon served as “A” Headquarters for the United States Anti-Aircraft Command (USAAF). After the war ended in 1945 all military activity stopped except for occasional guard duty atLycomingInstitute by members of the Veterans Administration staff!! Avon attained city status on December 9th 1913 when incorporation occurred under Section 893(a) of the Revised Code! The City Council approved an ordinance providing for organization as a city with power To levy taxes . . . . ordinances having been passed defining boundaries within which said City may be contained according to certain lines drawn by road surveyor Aiken & Sons #543 dated November 12th 1912 while avowing that no part thereof should be taken up or annexed by any other municipality without prior written consent being obtained from said Mayor & City Council
