The National Guard of the United States of America (NGUSA) was established on July 1, 1903 as a separate executive branch of the federal government. The NGUSA is responsible for providing military security and support to the United States Gov't during times of national emergency. Since it's establishment, the NGUSA has bestowed many unique gifts upon our community. Some examples include: a permanent Memorial Hall in Avon Lake, Ohio; an air traffic control tower at Morehead Airport; and $1 million to help build a new high school in Avon Lake. In addition, the NGUSA has donated land to be used for parkland, sports fields, and other public purposes in our community.

In addition to their sworn duty of protecting our citizens, the Guardsmen also have unique skills and abilities that are valuable to our society. Avon Lake is a small town in the northeastern part of the state of Ohio, about 25 miles west of Cleveland. It was founded in 1824 by James and Susannah Avon. The present community was formed from a merger of two villages, West Union and East Union, on May 1, 1937. As of 2010, the population was 914. The name "Avon" comes from an early settler's name for the area: Beaverdam. The first post office at Avon Lake was established on July 12, 1824 by Major John Cranch with the name Beaverdam Station. As early as 1827, avocados were being grown in this area and are mentioned in local papers as early as that year. In 1830-31 George Hinkle built a sawmill on the now called Mill Creek near present day Donavon Township; it continues to be used today as a mill pond. By 1834 there were plows on both sides of Mill Creek where it empties into the river belowpresent dayAvonLake; this made cultivation much easier than it would have been otherwise because water could not be diverted for other purposes such as irrigation or drainage until after crops had been harvested and dried (see map). In 1840 James Averill set up his store here and soon developed a trade in goods necessary for life outside of agriculture. He also started raising chickens which he fed to his customers’ cows who then milked them for their eggs which became either sold or consumed by residents free range until they turned into meat market animals during prohibition years when buying meat became illegal (see history lesson). When General David Hunter evacuated Avon Lake during the Battle of Fallen Timbers he left behind stores, horses & supplies including several cannons & carts filled with cannonballs & ammunition - these items were taken to Huntington Heights where they remain today adjacent to what is now known as Red Bank Elementary School playground! After all displaced citizens returned home in late August 1840 many houses still standing at fallen Timbers site experienced damage due to wind gusts over 50 mph causing roofs/ gables/ webbing between 2-8 feet off ground.. By October 1st only 3 homes remained standing out 11 others total sustained roofing damage including 4 gable ends supported by 6 iron posts some 30 feet above ground Formerly 7 house pre farmstead buildings now 5 unoccupied barns(4 attached property) Gable Ends Supported by 10 Iron Posts Now 16 Foot high With Ramps down To Bottom
The national guard was established on July 16, 1776 by the Second Continental Congress. The guards were first used to protect the new nation’s capital of Philadelphia from British attack. The original guards consisted of 5,000 men and women who served for six months per year. In 1814, the Guards were increased to 10,000 men and women and served for one year per year. After the Civil War, the Guard was reduced to a skeleton force due to budget cuts. However, in 2002, President George W. Bush ordered the National Guard to be reinstated as a full-time military service with an annual budget of $125 million. Since then, the National Guard has been playing an important role in American society by providing resources and support to state and local law enforcement agencies.
The National Guard has been providing law enforcement and security services to the United States since 1775. The first national guard units were raised in New York in 1776. In 1803, a brigade of Guard was sent to help suppress a slave uprising in Georgia. The Guards also served in the Mexican-American War (1846-48) and during the American Civil War (1861-65). From 1861 to 1865, there were over 2 million Guardsmen serving in uniform.
Avon Lake is a small town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,831 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Avon Lake was Moses Green in 1814. Green built a cabin on the edge of present-day village and named it after his home country, Vermont. He and his wife, Sally (née Stopford), had three children: John Green, Moses Green II, and Sarah Jane Stopford. In 1829 they founded the Village of Avon which grew rapidly due to its location on the Scioto River between Cincinnati and Dayton. In 1839 they purchased from the state of Ohio 1/4 mile (1 kilometer) wide strip of land along both banks of the Scioto for $2 per acre ($24 per km²). This gave them title to alluvial soil that lay within 100 feet (30 meters) of either bank of the river. Two years later James Kapp bought 3/4 mile wide (1 kilometer long) piece from Avon for $5 per acre ($96 per km²). This gave him title to alluvial soil that lay within 500 feet (150 meters) of either bank of the river. By 1845 Kapp had organized a Methodist church at Avon which attracted settlers who were looking for land with good possibilities for farming and timber production. The Village became known as "Kapp's Landing." In 1847 John Fenton built a log cabin on what is now North Avenue inAvon Village which he called "Fenton's Ferry". During this time there was no water available anywhere near where today's buildings stand so he established an oasis by filling up a small stream with well dug wells next to his cabin until he could find more reliable water sources upstream or downriver. In 1850 Fenton removed some trees from present-day North Avenue so that he could build a house on top which still stands today beside North Avenue Elementary School. A new post office was established atAvon in 1850; it remained in operation until 1906 when it moved to nearby Uniontown because mail service was improved then available over postal Telegraph lines using telegraph poles instead than posts (). Avon also became an important stopping place for wagons coming upriver from points east including Cuyahoga Falls during its early days as a transportation bottleneck caused by rapids near Medinaville downstream and westward into Kentucky; this traffic stopped completely when boats began ferrying goods across Wabash River between Cincinnati and Vandalia starting about 1840s onward.(Cincinnati History Museum website quoting article "Museum Exhibit - Shipping traffic through Verona prior to Erie Canal Opened" by Carolyn Todaro 2009 pg 7-8)) Fenton also developed agriculture here including raising corn, beans, wheat, potatoes etc.; however much later other commercial activities took hold such as gaslighting(a process used to make oil), shoe manufacturing etc..
