In the early 1800s, coffee was being roasted on small family farms in the area that now includes Avon Lake, Ohio. The first recorded mention of coffee in this area is from 1806, when a European traveler named Nicholas-Jacques Conte wrote about finding beans "growing wild" along the banks of the Maumee River. By 1830, coffee was being roasted and marketed inAvon Lake by John Fritchey and Sons. In 1838, J.R. Gourlay became owner of Fritchey's business and changed its name to Gourlay Coffee Company. The company continued to roast and market coffee until it merged with Roasting Corporation of America in 1951. Coffee has been an important part of Ohio's culture for centuries and has helped make our state one of the most prosperous in America. Our history with coffee begins with Native Americans who were harvesting beans for their own use and for trade with other tribes across the Midwest. Over time, Columbus discovered new continents and set out to explore them, but he never encountered any significant amounts of green tea or coffee trees – until he came upon India’s subcontinent on his return trip! When Columbus returned home from his journey in 1492, he brought back plants that may have been the first ever cultivated into tea or coffee! Europeans began brewing their own beverages such as ale and mead while traveling through Asia before settling down to begin drinking these products back at homebase where they started developing various methods for extracting caffeine from different types of plants (including beans). Eventually Africa became involved in this process as well; some people there growing cocoa beans which were then processed into rawhide ready for export back home (this gave us chewing tobacco). Coffee began spread throughout Europe thanks to travelers who took note of what they saw while exploring these new lands – many people within Europe started importing Indian hempseed oil which was used to produce paper goods like textiles while also being used as a cooking fuel (and eventually becoming known as “coffee”!). Eventually English traders set out on their own expeditions during the 16th century looking for new markets overseas so they could get their hands on all sorts of valuable artifacts including spices! One such trader named Christopher Colombus decided to take up trading Caravelle voyages after hearing about rich rubber forests located off Java (Indonesia) – this led him to discover not only valuable resources but also fresh ground coffeeseeds! After months travelling through uncharted territory resulting in numerous insights about natural resources we can thank Christopher Columbus for modern day espresso culture! Unfortunately though due mostly to his Enterprise shipwrecked off Sumatra sixty miles east off Java Indonesia on April 12th 1512%, one third of all human cargo lost during his voyage did not get ashore…all those coffeesupplies going down with him!! This event would later lead directly to Dutch colonization efforts over Java starting around 1600AD!!! So yeah….. Amsterdam got busy pretty quickly trying figure out how they were goingto build a port without all those Indonesian monks living inside :) Anyway…….. moving along folks………. By the 16th century, coffee had spread to Europe where it was grown and processed by monks. Coffee began to be exported to various parts of the world in large quantities during this time. Coffee became popular in North America during the early 1800s because it could be produced cheaply here. In 1824, a group of Englishmen set out on a journey to find new sources for coffee. While they were exploring the Amazon River Basin, they discovered an area that would later become known as Brazil's largest coffee plantation- Botafogo de Azevedo. This discovery led to massive investment into coffee production in Brazil and helped make Brazilian coffee one of the most valuable commodities in the world. AfterBrazil became an independent country in 1889, its policymakers decided that it should produce its own caffeine for its citizens instead of relying on imported beans from Europe or Africa. This change led to new exploration efforts within Brazil leading to discoveries such as Mato Grosso do Sul (today's Texas) and Paraguay which yielded high quality beans that could now be roasted at home by means of slow roasting techniques called "barracudo" or "cabrito." These coffees would eventually become known as Santos coffees due to their origin city: Santos don't name their beans after any specific places but rather simply roast them there according to traditional methods like cinder picketing and fermentation/fermentation followed by storage at night before shipment

Avon Lake is a small town located in the unincorporated community of Hampton Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 595 at the 2010 census. Avon Lake is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Avon Lake was James A. Smith who came overland from Kentucky in 1817 and established himself on the east side of the current village site. He named his land "Avon" after one of his brothers who had died young in Kentucky. By 1825, five families were living on the present site: John Sclater, Abel Greenough, Solomon Hoyt, Jonathan Dayton and their wives Emmaline and Sarah Conner; Peter Biddle; John Fenton; and four children of Solomon Hoyt: Eleazer (1826-1910), Chasuble (1827-1900), Salmon (1829-1902) and Harriet Mifflin (1830-1920). In 1830s two more families arrived: Isaac Hutton from Vermont and Elijah Woods from North Carolina. One resident said that by 1850 there were twenty people living in Avon Lake proper with another dozen or so scattered around its rural hamlets including West Hammondsville to the south, East Hammondsville to the north and East Canfield to the east.
