In 1864, much of present day Stark County was added to Adams County as part of the Union Territory during the American Civil War; as a result, Aurora became part of Defiance Township (present day Colfax Township). On October 1, 1970, portions of Stark County within Defiance Township were annexed into Erie County; however, most of Aurora remained within Erie County until its annexation into Cleveland by Cleveland Municipal District on November 3rd 1978 which created Cleveland-Akron-Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Aurora has been home to several industries over its history: coal mining began operations here in 1825 and continued until 1963; steel production began here in 1903 and continued until 1967; glass making occurred from 1907 until 1952; printing presses were set up here beginning with an establishment by Jughead Thomson in 1913;Later printers include Bob Wright (1948), Don Leisner (1982), Joe Weisenthal (2005)and John Sylvester (2013). Erie's largest employer at one point was United States Steel Corporation which produced 273 million tons of steel products between 1951 and 1982 according to their website . Other large employers have included Westinghouse Electric Company which manufactured nuclear power plants throughout Northeast Ohio starting around 1945 through 1996 before moving westward across America to Mexico City after being closed down due to environmental concerns then GEICO who operates three casinos adjacent to downtown Chicago’s Millennium Park currently – -all while continuing service into 2019! Aurora, Ohio is a small city located in the state of Ohio. It was founded in 1824 by John C. Aurora and his brother James as the village of Aurora. The city was named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora. In 1886, it became a town and in 1920, it became a city. The population of Aurora was 9,487 at the 2010 census. The Aurora Municipal Court was first established on July 1, 1825. On October 15th of that year, the first municipal election took place and John C. Aurora was elected Mayor with an even split among all wards; he continued to serve until his death on November 3rd due to illness four days later at the age of seventy-six years old. The first school in Aurora opened its doors on January 8th of 1826 under instruction from Drs Green and Holmes who had just arrived from Cincinnati with their new school district which included both townships within what is now called Cleveland County). Classes were held at Mr Hays’ house for two weeks before moving to Mr Waddell’s home where classes were offered for six weeks during term time before moving back to Drs Green and Holmes’ house for another six weeks before ending up being housed at Mrs Latham’s home until May 8th when classes finally began at her home again because one week earlier than scheduled she had gone into premature labor with her third child (born about three months premature).
