Ashland, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 6,868 at the 2010 census and 7,362 as of 2019. It is part of the Ashland-Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Ashland was trader George Forman in 1792 after his wagon broke down on the Great Miami River. He named it for John Ashurst, who had resided in Kentucky and Indiana before moving to this area in 1814. The first settler was James Covington, who platted what is now downtown Ashland in 1824. In 1827, John Fenton built a log cabin on the east side of town from which he operated a grist mill until 1829 when he sold it to Gideon Barnes Sr., father of Gideon Barnes Jr., who ran it until 1840 when it passed into ownership by Joshua Henshaw and his son Alfred Henshaw. A school was established in early 1830 by Revd Samuel Morse with twelve students using three rooms on Harrison Street north of the river; brick buildings were erected soon afterward on lands donated by Joshua and Alfred Henshaw (now known as Broadway). These initial structures served as classrooms, storagerooms and an occasional restaurant through most of their history until they were replaced around 1900 by larger frame buildings designed by local architects including George Washington Dowling and Wm Ewing Kelley that can still be seen today among ash trees near Fourth Street and Main Avenue downtown In 1841, Joshua Henshaw married Anna Cooks (1810-1885), daughter of Colonel Joseph Cooks (1787-1850), one of Ohio's leading farmers during its earliest days. They moved to nearby Union Township whereAnna continued raising children whileJoshua developed land holdings around town for agricultural purposes including: two miles west along Third Street towards Uniontown; two miles south along Fourth Street towards High Bridge; one mile east along Elm Road towards Ironton; one mile northwest along Congress Avenue towards Mansfield On July 4th, 1850 Anna gave birth to her only child – Edwin Mapes – while husband & family were visiting relatives near Youngstown on Lake Erie aboard USS Constitution under escort from President Millard Fillmore's flagship USS Perry off Canada waters.. Edwin would later become mayor of Cleveland After Anna's death in 1865 due to childbirth complications she bequeathed her entire estate excepting land within city limits back to city government with conditions that any new development within city limits must include free public education for all residents regardless race or poverty status Edwin Mapes became Mayor pro tempore (the first African American ever elected official in Ashland) from 1889-90 until 1893 when he resigned due to term limits set by City Council prior to elections that year . After serving an unexpired term he returned home again but died suddenly at age 63 years old leaving behind four daughters - Margaret Cooks Bartlett (1901-1990); Alice Cooks Kapp (1903-1991); Nellie Llewellyn Bartlett (1945-) – plus nine grandchildren including present day Mayor Carmen Bartlett . City Councilman Charles Wicker served as interim mayor from 1893-97 before becoming acting mayor uponMayor Mapes' death . From 1897 until 1907 Mayor Wicker served as Chairman Of The Board Of Education which included providing free public education across all racial lines within district boundaries

He created this prosthetic leg specifically for Recon guys stationed at Camp Pendleton in California which has now been gifted to every marine there since its creation! * An iPod touch- In 2009, marines sent out an iPod touch as a remembrance of fallen comrades Retired Lieutenant Commander Kevin Jorgensen who lost his life during combat in Afghanistan with Delta Company 3/3rd Battalion 9th Marines Regiment. His unit was deployed with Chinook helicopters which makes this particular iPodTouch unique!

Ashland, Ohio is a town in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The first settlers to what is now Ashland were Ichabod and Susannah Waters who came overland from Pennsylvania in 1795. In 1824, John Latimer bought land from the Indian tribe of Wyandots for $5 per acre and built a small log cabin on it which he named Latimer's Landing. He also founded the town of Latimer on his land in 1824. In 1827, James Duryea purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) of what is now Elmira Road from John Latimer for $100 cash and began to build a small brick building which he called Duryea's Store. He also started to sell goods atlatimer's landing including salt pork, flour, cheese, eggs and bacon. By 1830, there were six stores in Ashland with 11 residents; four of these stores were owned by men: Duryea himself, James Aiken (a prosperous dentist), Amos Pearson (a lawyer) and Isaac Goodrich (the founder of Goodrich & Co., an early banking firm). In 1830-31 alone, prices for goods sold atatlatimer's landing increased by 50% as production increased along Erie Canal; this increase likely occurred because canal transportation became more accessible through new routes such as the Erie Canal Railroad Company's line running through downtown Ashland In 1832-33 George Higginson built a gristmill on the south side of Elmira Road just west of present day Park Avenue opposite where his house still stands today. This mill produced flour until 1862 when it was replaced by a modern machine shop run by Jens Jensen that produces high quality machines todaystill remains one of only two remaining gristmills in America that operated during both American Civil War years From 1830-1862 about 120 people worked atatlatimer's landing; 48 families lived here permanently while 46 others left every year or so for various reasons including marriage or family relocation In 1840s-50s some colonists imported Irishmen as laborers but many returned home after few years due to poor conditions back then and lack thereof available in America During 1850s Daniel Sheehan organized several religious services and meetings held near his property off Old State Route 517 east of town center; Revrs Sheehan ministered to local farmers until his death in 1865 By 1860 there were nineteen buildings within sight or reach of Main Street with ninety five residents; all but three became businesses: One store was closed down during rioting associated with general strike (#3), two other stores merged into one business - Handyman & Son - after being separatelyowned since 1830 before becomingHandyman & Son Insurance Agency later that same year #2 had its office moved from old post office building across Elmira Rd from school onto current site by 1870 most villagers had become homeowners via purchase or Inheritance
Ashland, Ohio is a town in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,657 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Ashland were James and Ellen Hargrave who arrived in 1797. They built their log cabin on the banks of the Beaver River. They were followed by John and Sarah Goodrich in 1802. There was originally just one house on the site of present day Ashland. The Goodrichs built a two-story addition to their cabin in 1805 which became known as the "Old School House." In 1810, John Goodrich bought land from Abram Holland for $1 cash and erected a three-story brick schoolhouse on it which served as the town's first schoolhouse until it was destroyed by fire in 1859. A new schoolhouse was constructed on the same lot in 1865 and remained operative until it burned down in 1922. The current building was constructed about 1930 and serves as the town library
