The Ashland Coffee Company opened in 1875 in the town of Ashland, Ohio. The company became one of the largest coffee companies in America, and its products were sold throughout the Midwest and East Coast. In 1907, the company merged with two other companies to form International Coffee Corporation. The company continued to produce high-quality coffee until it was destroyed by a fire in 1970.
Ashland, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ashland County. The population was 21,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a small community on the Scioto River about one mile south of its current location. In 1820, John Dickey built a cabin on what is now Dickey's Hill in what is now Ashland Township. He named his new community after his old home place in Scotland – Ashlane (now residing withinAshland). By 1830, there were 345 people living in Ashlane Township and it had become an important transportation junction for settlers moving westward during the Great Lakes region expansion. In 1840, John Ladd opened a gristmill on Dearborn Street in what is now downtown Ashland and started manufacturing flour and other products from woodchips he gathering around his mill site. By 1850, there were over 100 businesses located in downtown Ashland with over 1,200 people employed within them! The growth of business led to increased development around Downtown – including brickmaking and terrazzo paving – which continues to this day! Aswood was founded as a village by Methodist missionaries in 1851 but soon became overshadowed by downtown activity due to its smaller population size and lack of commercial opportunities offered by the growing town center. In 1875, Aswood merged with nearby Dryden to form the new city of Aswood/Dryden which continued to grow through annexation into neighboring towns until it reached its current boundaries as part of Akron-Canton MSA circa 2000! During World War II ashlanders served with distinction throughout northeastern Ohio providing essential labor for munitions plants such as ammunition factories at Sandusky Naval Shipyard and Vicksburg Plant; shipbuilding yards at Toledo Shipyards; army aviation centers at Fort Wayne; Camp Sevier; Winchester Army Ammunition Plant; Brunswick Army Ammunition Plant; Wright Field Dayton Airfields; Rocky Ford Arsenal Ammunition Plants serving all branchesof service! Some notable residents include: Mayor Joe Gualtieri (1945-1949); Congressman Robert Cushman (1949-1959); Art Carney (1960-1965), Woody Hayes (1966-1970), Dan Quayle (1971-1981), Jim Beam bourbon distilleries manager Bob Peasey(1982 - 1985) & General Manager Rick Majerus(1986 - 1991). The first cafe in Paris, La Ciotat, was opened by François-René Teisseier in 1793. The Cafe Royal was founded in 1805 by Philippe de Beauvoir and his friend Jean-Jacques Rousseau. In 1840, Baron Pierre Hermé started a small café near Place Vendôme that became a popular tourist spot for coffee lovers of all levels of interest and expertise. In 1976, they opened their first coffee house abroad – in Zurich, Switzerland – and soon thereafter began exporting their delicious bean to other countries. The Gattuso brothers continue to lead the charge for quality gourmet coffee throughout the years, establishing themselves as one of the most respected purveyors of high-quality beans on the planet.Today, Bruno and Rossella Gattuso’s legacy lives on through their highly respected son Angelo (pictured below), who is currently oversees operations at their Rome cafe. Ashland is a town in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It was laid out by James K. Polk in 1836 as part of the township of Niles. The name honors General John Custer and his squadron that fought in the west during the American Civil War. The first settler in what is now Ashland was James K. Polk who arrived there from Illinois on March 10, 1836. He named the community after General John Custer's cavalry unit which had fought at Little Bighorn during the Dakota Wars two years earlier. The area served as a military base and wagon route for farmers searching for new land to farm around central Ohio and beyond during this time period. In 1847, David Wills bought 175 acres (68 ha) southeast of present-day Ashland and set about building a small log cabin known as "Wills' Cabin". By 1850, he had built an addition to his cabin that became known as "The White House" or later "The Mansion". This structure remains standing today and is one of Ashland's most popular tourist attractions due to its unique architecture and history. In 1863, William McKinley moved into The Mansion with his family when they purchased it from David Wills. As president of the United States, McKinley used The Mansion as their official residence until 1901 when he moved into Washington D.C.. During World War II, many residents of Ashland volunteered their services to serve in various branches of the Armed Forces including those serving in Europe aboard ships like HMS Illustrious and USS Arizona; those fighting on Iwo Jima; and even some taking part in Operation Neptune's Spear which invaded Okinawa Japan! After World War II ended, many residents decided to stay within their own communities throughout the late 1960s through early 1970s whenAshland experienced rapid growth thanks largely to several industrial developments such as Steel Dynamics Corporation's manufacturing plant which produced cheese products from 1927 until 1975; Chalfont Paper Company which manufactured paper products until 1978; then Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company which began production of tires here starting in 1935 before moving operations eastward two years later to become what is now Carrier Air National Guard Base OH-10/Champion Field located just outside Cincinnati; Reynolds Metal Works closed its doors permanently around 1984 leaving behind an entire neighborhood full of abandoned buildings dating back to1920s! A number of these defunct companies remain significant cultural icons still extant today including Steel Dynamics Corporation where cheese products continue being produced while Chalfont Paper Company continues producing paper products despite no longer being able to manufacture any more since 1978 while Goodyear Tire & RubberCompany has been mothballed since 1984 but still produces tires today at Champion Field inside Cincinnati!
