Ashland, Ohio is a city in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 10,859 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The city was founded in 1824 by John Lewis and James Weldon as the town of Lewisville on the Scioto River. In 1830 it became an incorporated village. The name "Ashland" originated from a settler's pronouncement that a clear stream called the " Ashley" ran through his land. The first store in what is now Ashland opened on October 15, 1824, just two weeks after Ohio statehood. A post office was established here on November 3, 1825; its first clerk was Phebe Fenton. On January 9, 1829, Lewisville became an independent city and adopted its present name of Ashland City Limits (though it still included part of Lewisville). The first Mayor of Ashland City Limits was John Waddell (1830-31). In 1830s and 1840s saw rapid growth due to new transportation methods such as canals and railways; roads were built connecting Toledo to Cleveland; settlers arrived from all over Northeast Ohio looking for land near the rapidly growing cities in those years. By 1850 there were more than 2200 residents living in what is now downtown Ashland; manufacturing had taken hold with mills being built along the riverfront including one which still stands today - Eastman Kodak Company - as well as stores and factories upriver on Main Street during this time period. Many immigrants also settled here during this period: Germans (especially), Irish Catholics fleeing Potato Famine Émigrés who had come to America specifically to find work in these struggling times said to be "the most difficult they ever experienced." During World War II much of downtown Asheldown changed hands several times as German soldiers fought American forces across many battles including Battle of Solferino Ridge where some buildings remain standing today like Stuhlhausen Barracks which housed 88 men from 11 companies/ battalions when it was destroyed by Allied fire on November 12th 1945 while sheltering troops overnight following their successful offensive against Nazi Germany's Third Reich army units located inside Italy borders trenchless since 1941 prior to hostilities between US allies & axis members starting September 1939 & lasting until May 1945 when allies invaded EuropePhase Two) In 1954 Downtown Asheldown replaced Springfield Township under then Municipal President Eldon Mays after township trustees refused annexation requests from both neighboring townships due largely To financial reasons brought about by burgeoning industrial activities taking place within unincorporated areas around Springfield Township – primarily led by Youngstown Sheet Metal Workers Local 2438 who had operations completed at nearby Mineola Shoe Factory building housing 5500 workers+ production facilities used for parts making machines tools aerospace products munitions components autos parts production resulting in Youngstown Sheet Metal Workers Local 2438 becomingashamedly known throughout southern OH area locally & nationally for having facilitated mass destruction thru mismanagement & shameless profiteering thereby leading directly or indirectly responsible for approximately 1/3rd of Community Wealth loss resultant from recklessly destructive enterprise known officially however inadequately referred to locally simply as “Youngstown Sheet Metal Warehouse” – blame ultimately falls squarely uponlayered decision Making processes within organizations characterized therein as management greed Butcher deferred decisions made rather than take appropriate corrective measures lest serious consequences result

Ashland is a town in Ashland County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Ashland was James Caldwell in 1802. He and his family found freshwater land near present-day Akron on the Scioto River. In 1805, he married Mary Lapp and they moved to their current location on the east side of the Scioto River in 1807. In 1814, John Snyder moved from Canada with his wife and two children to lands east of present-day Akron and established an estate called "Snyder's Park." The village that grew around Snyder's Estate was named after him (ashland). In 1824, David Dudley founded a gristmill on the now-defunct Black Hawk Creek about one mile east of where Ashland now stands. It became one of the largest flour mills in central Ohio until it closed its doors in 1978. The post office at Snyder's Mill was established on Feb 17, 1830; it remained operational until 1906. The first store opened at Snyder's Mill on May 5, 1830; it became known as "The Grains Store" because it supplied groceries to residents of Akron and other towns near by. By 1840, there were nine stores serving rural areas within three miles of downtown Ashland proper. A large fire destroyed much of downtown business during a severe thunderstorm on April 10th1851; however five blocks north along Main Street several small businesses sustained only minor damage from flying bricks which caused no loss or inconvenience to depositors or customers inside those establishments
Ashland was founded in 1797 by Captain John Ash and his family. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s, and by 1899 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1907, the city of Ashland was consolidated with the towns of Napoleonville and South Portsmouth to form the new city of Cleveland.
