The Ashland Coast Guard Station was established on September 25, 1923. The original station was located in the town of Seal Beach and was staffed by five officers and thirty-six enlisted men. The firstshore patrol service in Ohio began operations at the station on December 1, 1924. On July 12, 1925, the station became part of the newly formed Cleveland Coast Guard District. The Ashland Coast Guard Station played an important role in helping to protect the coast of Ohio during the Great Lakes swimming pandemic of 1918-1919. In that time period, many people in Ashland went door to door offering water pitchers as a way to prevent swimmer’s diarrhoea from spreading. In 1930, the Coast Guard Station moved to its present location within the City limits of Ashland. At that time it consisted of a Headquarters Building with a single room that served as both office and living quarters for allStation personnel. A Commanding Officer’s Office and barracks were also constructed at this time which housed up to fifty enlisted men and two Officers. Since its establishment,theAshlandCoastGuardStation has provided leadership and support for coastal communities throughout Northeast Ohio including such areas as Beachwood Heights, Beachwood Township, Bolton Landing census places (Cleveland), Berea Township (Beachwood Heights), Butler Township (Beachwood Township), Defiance Borough (South Euclid), Dublintown Heights(Beachwood Heights), Harborview Village(Beachwood Township)., Highland Park(Cleveland ), Jefferson Hills(Beachwood Heights) and more………..Today there are over one thousand members sworn into service attheAshlandCoastGuardStation….

Ashland, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ashland County. The population was 15,848 at the 2000 census, making it the 3rd largest community in Ashland County. It is located on the Scioto River about 25 miles (40 km) north-northwest of Columbus, Ohio. The name "Ashland" is derived from an English place name meaning "hazelnut tree." The first settler in what became Ashland County was John Fenton in 1814. He named his land around a hazelnut tree he found thereabouts. Fenton's family still lives in the area and operates a small farm called Hazelnut Hill Farms which produces almonds and other crops. In 1824, President James Kapp assigned Daniel Boone to survey and map all of Ohio for US$5 per acre ($100 per square mile). When Boone arrived at what is now known as Ashland he found that some 8,000 Native American Indians lived there among whom he met several times during his travels through central Ohio and into Kentucky where he had been planning to settle with his group of settlers before reaching Indiana Territory. He visited Ashland again soon after this visit while on his way back east to explore new areas within Kentucky when he discovered an abandoned village on the Scioto River near present day Painesville Township, Cleveland County - thus beginning what would become known as "the Great Miami Expedition." The site that would become Ashland was then just onemile (1 km) wide by 2 miles (3 km) long between two ridges of earth above low water levels adjacent to each other across from modern day Delaware Avenue/Highway 43 Interstate 90 junction.. In 1826 John Fenton sold part of his Hazelnut Hill Farmstead including present day Ashley Township to James Wirtz who named it Wirtzville after himself father George Washington Wirtz Sr.. In 1830 Anthony Wayne purchased part of Wirtzville from Wirtz and also renamed it Ashley Township after himself father Anthony Wayne Jr.. In 1840 Michael Snyder bought land from Nicholas Gibbs along with buildings on Maple Street near current day Delaware Avenue/Highway 43 Interstate 90 junction.. This tract became Snyder Place today. In 1845-46 John Wickline surveyed much area surrounding present day Ashley Township including parts now inside Painesville Township., but never reached Ashley Township itself because of illness or injury sustained while traveling northeastward over high ground towards Chillicothe Junction.,thus ending Wickline's exploration efforts for that area which includedpresentdayAshleyTownship.- Beginning in 1850 John Muhlenberg began surveys within present day Painesville Township., eventually arriving at what is now called Middleburg Heights south ofpresentdayAshleyTownship & eastofI-90 junction.)Muhlenberg's surveys resulted in establishment ofPainesvilleCountyandpainesvilleRanchoungeruraldivisionlaternamed Mentor countysouthwestofColumbus&northoftheOhioRiver.).MentorCountywascreatedin1871from portionsoffromoldcountytotohomeofJohnNorman&JamesWarren.(purchasedbyGeorgeFultonfromJohnNormanin1850.)In 1907 ownership passed from Mentor County to Athens Municipal Corporation

Ashland, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and part of the Ashland-Sheboygan County metropolitan area. The population was 9,397 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ashland County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Ashland were French fur traders in 1688. They named it "Ashington" for their leader, Ashington, who had explored this area before that. The first white settlers arrived in 1797 when Nicholas Sacco and Bartolomeo Van Pelt founded a trading post on the Scioto River near present day downtown Ashland. The settlement grew rapidly and by 1814 there were over 50 homes and 10 businesses established in what is now downtown Ashland with a small school as its only educational institution. In 1821, John Crampton laid out much of present day Downtown Ashland on land he purchased from Nicholas Sacco and others following his victory at the Battle of Fallen Timbers which ended American Indian Wars between British Canada and United States forces under General George Washington. Downtown's success as a commercial center led to its incorporation as an incorporated city on January 1, 1901 by an act of the Ohio General Assembly pursuant to Chapter 515 of the Revised Statutes (1901). On July 2, 1907, Dayton filed suit seeking to have all or most of Cleveland annexed into Interstate 75 due to its large size; however, Akron prevailed over Dayton in court and annexation did not take place until 1938 when both cities became members of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit District (Cleveland Rd.) In 1965 Cincinnati annexed much larger parts of Toledo making it both largest municipality east of Chicago but also giving Toledo more power within Greater Cincinnati; this move increased Cincinnati's political stability which allowed it to make similar moves against smaller municipalities within its boundaries during subsequent decades leading up to centralization within Greater Cleveland during 2000s campaign against mayoral candidate Bob Ford . In 2002 Census data released bythe US Census Bureau showed that DowntownAshland’s population had grown again reaching 10k residents while continuing their rapid growth rate since 2001 – they now account for almost one third (30%)of all residents living in DowntownAshland! This increase can be attributed mostly to new apartment construction which has seen significant growth throughout DowntownashLAND thanks largely to two major developers: Mayor Mike DeWine’s administration has been committedto creating more jobs through job creation initiatives such as CityLab & Front Street Markhamhate Koreatown
Ashland was founded in 1788 by pioneers John Ash and his wife Deborah. The city was named for a nearby ash tree, which the founders likely found while exploring the area. In 1815, Ashland became part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. In 1870, the city had a population of about 50 residents and developed into a small town with a total land area of only 2 square miles. By 1906, the population had grown to over 1,000 people and the town developed into an Indianapolis-styleapolis with brick streets, heavy industry (including leather manufacturing), theaters and other businesses. The Great Depression led to a decline in business activity in Ashland during World War II but it bounced back after the war as international trade increased. The city experienced another growth spurt during the late 1960s through 1970s as new residents moved there from surrounding communities. However, this period of growth ended when median household income began to drop inAshland after decades of stagnation. Since 2000, however, business activity has resumed modestlyalthough still below pre-recession levels
