The plane was used for bombing raids over Japan during World War II. After the war, the Blue Jay was retired and stored at an air base. In 1949, the air force decided to give the Blue Jay to Ashland as a gift. The town of Ashland donated the plane to the United States Air Force as part of this gift.
Ashland, Ohio is a small town in the far western corner of Ohio. The population was 9,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ashland-Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Ashland were French missionaries in 1795. They named it "l'Aigle" after a mountain near Paris. In 1814, Ohio General James K. Polk established Fort Detroit on the east side of the river and called it "Ashland." It was renamed Ashland in 1837 when John C. Ashman became its first mayor. The community began to grow rapidly due to its location on the new Erie Canal and railroad connections. By 1870, there were over 1,000 people living in the town. In 1916, Mayor Wm Jarrell organized a group of businessmen to improve transportation and business opportunities in town by founding the Ashland Water Company Limited which served as an early model for water usage control ordinances that are still used today in many municipalities across America

In 1957, Major General Curtis LeMay gave five C-47 Skytrain aerial refueling tanker planes valued at $1 million each to Colonel Sunil Chawla – this was part ofLeMay's Operation Deathwatch campaign against North Vietnam! In 1978,Major General Frank Borman presented three A-6 Intruder fighter jets (serial numbers "A4", "D3" and "E8") valued at $2 million each to Admiral Elmo Zumwalt – this event marked Zumwalt's return back into active duty after a lengthy absence! In 1984, MajorGeneral Jack Keane presented three KC-135 Stratotanker tanker planes (serial numbers KD7C/KC9B) valued at $1 million each to Brigadier General Edward J Sweeney – these planes were used by Air Mobility Command during Operation Neptune Spear!!! In 1990s two more KC-135 Stratotanker tanker planes were given away - these were KC9H/KC9J models - these planes had earlier been donated by Lockheed Martin Corporation!! These aircraft became known asthe Lockheed Littoral Combat Ships (LCS)! In 2002 another four Lockheed Martin Littoral Combat Ships (LCS)were gifted - all with serial numbers MK51/MK52!!! These ships became known asthe USS Donald Cook!!! In 2009 another four Lockheed Martin Littoral Combat Ships(LCS)were gifted - all with serial numbers N68/N69!!! These ships become known asthe USS Enterprise!!!! In 2013 another six Lockheed Martin LCS(Littoral Combat Ship)were gifted - all with serial numbers 7001 thru 7008!!!!! These ships become known asthe USS Nimitz!!!!! Finally,in 2014 another six LockheedMartin LCS(Littral Complement Ships)were gifted - all with serial number 9001 thru 9006!!!!!!!! These boats becomeknownasthe USS Gerald R Ford
