Alliance is a city in the Ottawa-Hull Metropolitan Area, located in Summit County, Ohio. As of the 2010 census, Alliance had a population of 54,813. The city was founded on May 25, 1836 by General John Neville and Union Colonel James Wilkinson as part of the new territory acquired from Great Britain following the War of 1812. The first post office in Alliance was established on July 1, 1837. The town became a municipality on December 12, 1907. On January 1, 1990, the city annexed the unincorporated community of Northfield. During World War II, Alliance was host to overflow crowds when thousands OF1st Airborne Division soldiers were brought down into Summit County for training purposes at Wright-Patterson AFB before being deployed overseas; this event is now known as "The Day That Democracy Died." After years of discussion among local officials and citizens alike over how best to commemorate this significant moment in downtown’s history (and ensuing economic impact), a committee chaired by Mayor Dino Rossi recommended that The Day That Democracy Died be dedicated specifically to Allied veterans through events such as Memorial services or patriotic displays throughout downtown followed by concerts/theatre performances benefiting military families residing within town limits; this recommendation was approved unanimously by City Council on October 15th 2006 subsequent to which parade/events took place across various parts of downtown including Military Plaza & Veteran's Cemetery on November 3rd 2006.; later that year construction began on what would become NATO Square - an outdoor plaza/memorial square honoring all Allied service members killed or missing in action since World War II - which opened officially on May 5th 2007

Alliance is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Union County. The population was estimated at 71,594 in 2018, making it the third most populous city in Ohio behind Cleveland and Columbus. It is located on the Scioto River gorge, about 15 miles (24 km) west of Cleveland and 5 miles (8 km) east of Cincinnati. Founded as an agricultural community by early American pioneers, Alliance quickly became an important transportation hub for settlers moving westward during the 1800s. In 1851, Alliance was chartered as a town by General David Trimble and named after his uncle, John Trimble Sr., who had founded nearby Mentor in 1796. In 1863, when Ohio became a U.S. state, Alliance became its county seat; it remains so to this day. The city has been inhabited by humans since at least 7500 BC according to archeological evidence found near present-day downtown Alliance; artifacts dating back to that time have been discovered throughout central Ohio including at the ancient Byram culture site just north of downtown Alliance on what is now called Trimble Park Road (). The first written record of human habitation in this area can be traced back to c1795 when surveyors reported finding Shawnee Indian villages along both sides of the Scioto River ()—nearly one mile from where today's downtown stands (). In 1807, three men from Akron claimed land northeast of present-day Alliance on what would become known as Trimble Township ().
