Alliance, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and is part of the Dayton metropolitan area. The population was 38,691 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth-largest city in Ohio and one of its eight largest cities by population. It lies on the southern edge of Dayton, between I-75 and I-480 Speedway Boulevard. The city was founded in 1801 as a small village called Alliance by pioneer Adolphus Wright and his family. A native of nearby Youngstown, Wirtz had started his own grocery store there when he moved to Akron in 1886 to open a second store after purchasing the first from his father-in-law. He soon established himself as one of local commerce’s most significant figures and helped build what would become one of Summit County’s most prosperous communities – Abilities Inc., which became known throughout Summit County for its excellence in food services; Wirtz Acton & Son Furniture stores; Wirtz Automobile Co.; First National Bank; Stroud Glass Works; Presbyterian Hospital; Cleveland Country Club) . According to legend, Brockshall asked townspeople if they wanted avenue named after him or some other business man then sent them all pictures featuringBroad Avenue filled with people waving banners reading “BrooksHall Way!â€
