On January 6th, 1940 – less than two weeks after President Roosevelt had signed Executive Order 9066 – the Americans who had been drafted into the armed forces were brought before Congressional committees for hearings known as the “Gift of War Hearings” under chairmanship of Senator Robert Taft (R-OH). During these hearings it was revealed that many American servicemen were not being properly trained and majority of them were unfit for combat because they had no experience or qualifications whatsoever from either education or job experience anywhere else except army enlistment centers across America where they could only receive basic training while waiting their turn for draft card signings at 4 p.m.–6 p.m.,EST each day! It was also revealed that some units within both our Ground Forces (army infantry) and Air Force (air force) branches were engaged in criminal activity such as looting homes throughout Italy while stationed there during WWII; this led Congressman Taft investigations into these units which ultimately resulted in indictments against many members of these organizations including three generals commanding armies involved with Italian military operations! Despite all this negative news coming out from Washington D C during these hearings chaired by Senator Taft; more than 1 million Americans decided to enlist directly into our Armed Forces through enlistment centers across the country between February 9th-11th 1940! This marked an unprecedented surge in patriotism throughout America due largely to president Roosevelt’s callous decision making regarding WW2!

This paper will explore the history of Alliance, Ohio and what has led to its current status as a vibrant community. It will also discuss the unique challenges that have been faced by the town since it was founded in 1810. Alliance was founded on July 1, 1810, by two brothers named Nicholas and John Harker. The original land for the town was donated by General David Cranch. The brothers had come across a piece of land that looked promising and decided to build a home there. The first buildings were built on what is now Elm Street. The early days of Alliance were difficult. There were no roads or transportation available and residents had to walk or ride horses to get around. However, through hard work and determination, the town began to grow and develop into what it is today. One of the most important factors that has helped Alliance achieve its current stature is its strong infrastructure. The town has a well-funded schools system with plenty of resources available for students to use. Additionally, Alliance has an extensive network of roads which allows residents to access all sorts of businesses and services without having to drive far away. In addition, there are numerous cultural attractions located in nearby communities which allow people from Alliance to enjoy some much-needed peace and quiet while they shop or visit friends/family members

The early days of the army were difficult because everyone was so new and there was little trust between soldiers and their commanders. The first organized group of white Americans in the area that would become Alliance, Ohio was founded on October 3, 1812 when thirteen men from the town of Sandusky, Ohio met at a tavern to form the "Sandusky Rifle Company." The rifle company was made up of men from surrounding areas who had been recruited by Captain David Wilkinson, an American Revolutionary War veteran and founder of Alliance. In 1813, Captain Wilkinson organized a second company called the "Cleveland Battalion" which became the nucleus for what would become the present-day Alliance community. On May 22, 1814, General Lewis Cass appointed Captain Wilkinson as captain general of all forces in Northwest Ohio. This appointment led to increased military activity in this region and created new opportunities for trade and commerce. On November 15, 1815, Commodore John Cushing arrived at Sandusky with a squadron of nine vessels and erected a wharf next to where he had landed his troops two years earlier. He soon realized that he needed more traders and soldiers to protect his interests in this new land so he formed the First Regiment of United States Infantry (1816-1820) under Captains John Sweeny and James Fenton. The regiment helped clear land for Cushing's expedition against Lake Erie during the war with Great Britain. In 1819-20, after years of discussion between various businesses and individuals within Alliance about forming a town square or marketplace outside their business districts to increase commerce and attract investment, Mayor Isaac Hymes proposed creating an "Alliance Square" on what is now Northwest Side Street near Second Street NW. This idea caught on quickly among local merchants who saw it as an opportunity to improve their own commercial district while also attracting tourists from neighboring towns such as Cleveland or Youngstown. On October 10th 1830 voters authorized the erection of a cornerstone for the square which was dedicated by then-Mayor Hymes on December 12th 1830. The square is currently home to several buildings including: The Post Office (1911), Griggs School (now Griggs Elementary), Second Presbyterian Church (1896), Stroud & Sons grocery store (1984), Prentice Hall Learning Center (2005), Assemble! restaurant(2010). The history of Alliance dates back over 350 years!
In 1802, the Ohio Company was formed to purchase land in what is now Cincinnati. The company bought more than 6,000 acres of land and founded the city of Cincinnati. In 1803, the company built a factory in what is now Over-the-Rhine. The factory produced flour, beef, pork and other goods.
