West Fargo, North Dakota is a small town located in McKenzie County, South Dakota. The population of the town was 1,340 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Brookings, SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of West Fargo dates back to 1882 when James Hargrave established a blacksmith shop and wagon shop in what is now the downtown area of the town. A post office was established in 1889, and by 1907 there were only two businesses left in the original downtown core-the Hargrave Store and the Western Lumber Company. In 1912, Wm. Pemberton founded an Odd Fellows Lodge No. 2A in what is now west side of town; this lodge later became known as United Order No. 7A (UO7A). In 1916, local farmers created a citrus orchard that produced fruit for market; this orchard would eventually be named "Moses" after Moses Mankiewicz who had donated land for it. In 1922, local men organized a cotton ginned mill called Cedar Falls Mills which began shipping goods from town to Brookings on October 3rd; Cedar Falls Mills would later become known as Sioux City Mill & Trading Post Inc.; Sioux City Mill continued to operate until it closed in 1984 CE. In 1927-1928 local men formed Dakota Cottonseed Corporation which began planting boll weevil resistant cotton seed near present day West Fargo High School; this company would later become known as Pioneer Weevils Incorporated (PWI) and continue operations until 2002 CE when it merged with Dow AgroSciences Incorporated (DOW) to form Dow Chemical Company Limited (DOW/CHE). On July 16th 1928 local residents erected a one story white frame building at 6th Street and MLK Avenue which served as their first municipal hall/ courthouse; this building would eventually be renamed after Judge Harry Lenhardt who presided over West Fargo Municipal Court from 1936-1939 CE.. Not long afterwards another white frame building was erected at 4th Street and MLK Avenue which served as the "Old Courthouse". This building would Eventually serve as both the jail cell for county inmates during World War II CE Up until 1959CE when it burned down due to arson.. As technology advanced during WWII CE various new companies were incorporated including Raytheon Co., Hughes Aircraft Corporation, BASF AG & Co., American Cyanamid Inc., Northern Securities Corporation - all of whom continued operations until they too closed down during that time period: these companies included Bethlehem Steel Corp., General Electric Company &Co., Ford Motor Company &Co,, Northrop Grumman Corporation (& Co.) etc... .
