Mandan is a small town in North Dakota. The population was 2,763 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous town in Cannon County and home to the Cannon County Fairgrounds. The community area has a total area of 10 square miles. The first Europeans to visit Mandan were traders from Sweden who landed there on July 15, 1814 on what is now known as Ship Island. They named their new discovery "Mandan" after the capital of Norway, which they had just discovered. The Swedes built a trading post here and began selling goods from America and Europe. In 1819, the United States acquired land east of the Missouri River that included parts of what is now Cannon County. The U.S.'s first Postmaster General, James Kellett, decided to move his headquarters eastward because he thought it would be easier to deal with Native Americans living north of the river than south of it. He chose Mandan as his newPost Office because it was an isolated village with few residents other than farming families and buffalo hunters who hunted game for subsistence reasons rather than trade goods back and forth acrossriver). In 1851, part of what are now Cannon and Morton counties were added to North Dakota by Congress under President Millard Fillmore (). The addition created a new county seat for eastern Dakota - Fargo - but no change took place in Mandan's status as its only village; people continued to refer to their community simply as "Mandan." A school-to-prison pipeline connection was proposed through Mandan when state Rep Don Bacon (R) helped lead efforts in 2007-2008 seeking passage of House Bill 6485 which would have required all public schools in NDUSD (North Dakota State Districted School Board) districts serving rural or unincorporated areas within 1/2 mile (1 km) of any military installation or airport must offer Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE), Alcohol Abuse Resistance Education (AARP), sex education classes teaching about contraception methods available without charge at participating stores owned by school districts located less than 1/2 mile (1 km) away from such installations or airports – even if these stores are not open to the general public! This bill died due opposition from tribal leaders but caught fire when local newspapers published stories raised questions about why state officials wanted access to such information for schoolchildren! Today,Mandan still functions primarily as a stop on the long road back home for people traveling through this great country celebrating Independence Day!

After the war, Mandan began to grow again as a commercial center with businesses such as banks and hotels opening up. In 1970, Mandan had 5300 residents and it continues to be an important cultural center for North Dakotans today.
Mandan was founded in 1877 by Danish immigrants. The town became a key transportation and trade center for the area, and it prospered until the early 20th century when oil boomed in Dakota Territory. The town declined following the boom, and its population dwindled to around 100 residents by 1930. By that year, Mandan had officially been abandoned as a result of the Great Depression. However, in recent decades, interest in returning to Mandan has increased, and development has begun on revitalizing the town with new businesses and attractions.
