The Marine Corps Deployment Service (MCDS) provides a unique and select service for the enlisted and officer corps of the United States military. The MCDS is responsible for delivering critical gifts to deployed Marines, sailors and airmen worldwide. Since its inception in 1941, the MCDS has delivered more than 4 million Shoestring Gifts to our troops. These unique items provide support and morale enhancement while they are on deployment. From cots and cribs to fishing poles and camping gear, we have something for everyone! Our marines appreciate all that we do to support them both on-and off-duty. In 2019, there were more than 1,500MCDS employees nationwide who delivered Shoestring Gifts to Marines across the country. This number is expected to grow as we continue supporting our men and women in uniform through donations of new equipment, supplies or gifts!

Jamestown was a trading post and later, a capital of the new United States of America. It was located on the Missouri River in present-day North Dakota. The town was founded by English colonists in 1790 as Fort George. It became the capital of America in 1797, when it was moved from Philadelphia to Jamestown. The town declined during the 19th century, but resumed growth in the 20th century and is now an important cultural center in western North Dakota. The first Europeans to set foot on what is now North Dakota were French traders and explorers who arrived at Fort Chipewyan (now Red Deer) in 1683. They found what they thought were great herds of buffalo and hunted them for food until they learned that these animals had no real herd size and most likely only numbered around 40 or 50 individuals at most. In retaliation for this insult, Native Americans killed many of these Frenchmen before they could return home with their valuable fur pelts. This event helped spur English explorer Sir John Franklin to enter into exploration of northern Canada in search of a route to China through Siberia via the Northwest Passage. As early as 1706, English settlers had been exploring and mapping lands northward from London along the east coast of North America. In 1740, James Cook explored what is now Manitoba and Northern Ontario; he named this area New England because his explorations there seemed to confirm Dutch reports that there was land beyond Cape Beston (the easternmost point on Vancouver Island). As new discoveries were made about Canada's interior, expeditions began being sent out seeking settlement rights along both banks of the Missouri River – which would eventually become part ofNorth Dakota – although much progress had still been made southward before this time! On October 26, 1787, Captain James Cook sailed his ship HMS Erebus into Hudson Bay off present-day Winnipeg while Lieutenant William Griggs led an expedition under Captain Edward Brace overland from Quebec City towards Churchill Lake near modern day Fargo so that supplies could be transferred overland2! After reaching Churchill Lake on December 12th (late winter), Griggs discovered large quantitiesof saltpeter – essential for making gunpowder – among several thousand square miles3! These first successful efforts at opening up Canadian territory resulted in numerous treaties being signed between British colonists and local Indigenous people4 including one between Great Britain and the Sioux Nation known as The Treaty Of Saint Louis (1785), which ceded all present-day Minnesota except for certain areas westward including Minnesota'sMinnesota River Valley5! By 1800, 7% or more all American gold ore came from Saskatchewan6!! By 1876 however, development within Canada had essentially stopped due to following events: 1) Gold Rush fever sweeping across North American after discovery by parties such as Andrew Jackson’s “ Exploratory Expedition”; 2) Ulysses S Grant becoming president; 3) railroads cutting off transportation options connecting Canada with its southern neighbor; 4) increasing competition from U States agricultural production productivity caused by advances in technology such as irrigation systems7; 5) various internal political conflicts8 culminating with Confederation taking place on July 1st 18679; 6) economic recession leading to mass emigration10 followed by assimilationist policies towards aboriginal peoples11 resultingin significant social segregation12 !!! !!!!!!!!!!!!! The first permanent settler in the area was a band of Dakota Sioux who named their new land Jamestown after Jameson himself. The town was founded by Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the first Canadian Prime Minister, in 1869. It became an important trading post on the Missouri River and served as a base for Indian traders and missionaries during the American Civil War. After the war, Jamestown grew into a thriving community with over 10,000 residents. The town fell to ruin following World War II and its loss of economic importance; however, it has since been restored and is now a popular tourist destination.
The Marine Corps deploys gift in Jamestown, North Dakota every year to celebrate their service to the country and its citizens. This year's event is on Saturday, May 11th from 10am-2pm at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Jamestown. There will be a variety of Marines present from all branches of the military, as well as civilians who help support their deployments. The Marines will be selling different items for sale including T-shirts, hats, mugs and more. There will also be food available for purchase from local restaurants and vendors.
