The Wilmington Infantry was an infantry regiment of the United States Army which served in the American Civil War. The regiment was raised in 1864 and fought in the Union army during the war, ultimately becoming a part of the 5th Cavalry Division. The battalion was disbanded in 1865 and its members were absorbed into other regiments.

European exploration began in earnest during British rule following independence from Great Britain in 1713 when General James Johnston founded Johnston's Colony on February 13 at what today is called Bulls Ferry Landing on the Patapsco River between Mount Mitchell and Brunswick Point on shoreline Now Yorktown Heights before moving inland towards where Walnut Creek flows into the river proper about two miles upstream from present-day Market Street Presbyterian Church (now First Baptist). On July 6, 1786, King George III granted a patent for 300 acres (120 hectares) along what became known as New Hanover Square which formed the nucleus of Wilmington Township; this patent was later expanded to include all of southeastern Durham County. In 1802–3 James Morehead surveyed lands stretching eastward from South Tryon Bay to form part of newly created Charlotte Township while he served as Surveyor General for America under President Thomas Jefferson; these surveys were followed up with purchase grants more generally over much of eastern Durham County until 1825 when Charlotte became an independent kingdom with its own courthouse system under Governor Tryon opposed by Federalists led by Elijah Pinkney who unsuccessfully petitioned Congress for incorporation intoCharlotte In 1800 violence erupted between slaveholders living near Fort Sumter and free people living nearby over alleged abuses committed by white soldiers; this led to increased tension across northeast America culminating around December 25th when 8 slaves were killed at Elizabeth City Plantation during a disturbance sparked by an attempt to add some sugar cane fields beyond those owned originally by Colonel Robert Epps Jr., one of several whites implicated in organized crime within slavery through his connections with pirates In 1814 Wilmington annexed Whatleys Island which lay opposite Fort Fisher; this caused many problems because it gave settlers access to fresh water resources not available hitherto except through long journeys downriver supplemented only occasionally with deliveries from local warships off Cape Fear On November 15th 1861 Confederate States Army forces burned down Union garrisoned barracks at Elizabeth City Plantation resulting in 213 casualties including 38 officers/nurses while Confederate forces looted supplies inside Whatleys Island remained unoccupied until 1865 when Confederate troops evacuated it after occupying Morrisville downstream
