Colonel James Denton, then the Commandant of the Marines, bought two tickets for the ship's crew and gave them to his friends and family. These gifts helped build Navy morale and tradition in Weddington. The first recorded naval salute from a United States warship in Weddington was given on December 12, 1810 by USS Constitution's commanding officer Commodore John Rodgers. This event marked the beginning of an annual military salute from US warships that still takes place today. The USS Constitution's crew played an important role in both World War I and World War II, performed many heroism feats including saving thousands of lives while being torpedoed off Newfoundland during World War II. Sailors who served aboard TheConstitution are buried at Naval Cemetery Charleston, South Carolina. During Coast Guard Week (March 15-21), Weddington will also celebrate its navy connection with honor by hosting several events including a ceremonial launch of ceremony for new Coast Guard Cutter HMCS Windsor which is sponsored by Navy Pier—the first time this has ever happened!

Weddington is a small town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 910 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hickory–Lenoir–Morganton, NC-SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Weddington was founded in 1868 by Captain John Weddington and his wife Catharine Browning Weddington. It was named for General Francis J. Waddell, who fought with distinction against Creek Indians in the Mexican-American War. The Weddingsons were active members of both the Presbyterian and Methodist churches in their community. They raised two children and served as schoolteachers before retiring in 1978 to live full time on their farm west of town. The first store in Weddington opened its doors on Main Street in 1871. A post office called Weddingon was established in 1870, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1916. The first settler to come to wed at what is now Weddington was Mrs Catharine Browning (1814-84). She married Captain John Weddingon on October 25, 1868, at an old plantation near present day Lenoir City, Tennessee; they arrived here on horseback from Carthageville, Virginia that same year with only 14 dollars Inflation adjusted dollars!Catharine's parents had emigrated from England some years earlier during the American Civil War as volunteers under General Ulysses S Grant's command to fight for Southern independence - a cause close to her heart!Captain John had been stationed at Fort Donelson when General Beauregard surrendered there on April 12 1865 just shy of 4 years after Confederate defeat at Missionary Ridge!Captain John had also fought during Sherman's March through Georgia & Alabama which left much destruction behind including most of Carthageville - home of "Old Carthage" where they harvested cotton since early 17th century!!Catharine became widowed while serving 5 terms as Sheriff of Henderson County (1851-57; 1861-65; 1867-70), one term longer than any other woman ever elected sheriff!After her husband's death she endowed each new widow elected sheriff with 100 acres of land for farming or ranching use adjoining her original homestead if such acquisitions could be made within 3 years... thus ensuring that all Henderson County women would have access to quality land not available anywhere else!!! After Catharine's death local pioneer Hennie Winnsfield donated 200 acres adjacent to present day Wynnewood Cemetery across from Tuevilles Drug Store which crossed over into Henderson County soon afterwards becoming known as Winnsfield Road !!!! This donation inaugurated what has become known today as Cornerstone Road about 2 miles east of downtown weddington....the now popular shopping area started out just off cornerstone Rd back when it only took 1 carload per week/average person!! Today u can find almost everything you need right next door !!!!!

The first shipbuilding yards in America were opened in Rhode Island and Maryland. These yards produced warships that served in both the revolutionary war and during the subsequent War of 1812. In 1846, the United States Congress passed an act authorizing the construction of a navy separate from that of Great Britain. This new navy was known as Union Navy and it was intended to protect American ports against British attack. The first USS Constitution was launched on July 14, 1846. The navy enjoyed great success during its early years and became one of America’s most powerful forces. However, this success came at a price: The navy was expensive to maintain and operate. As a result, many congressional members did not want to continue spending money on a useless military force when there were other more pressing concerns at hand. In 1861, after Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter, President Abraham Lincoln authorized his cabinet to build more warships than had been authorized by Congress for the Union Navy. This decision helped spark America’s Civil War and led to much criticism from within society who felt that Lincoln had taken advantage of wartime circumstances for political gain purposes. Despite these controversies, Union Navy played an important role in helping win World War I against Imperial Japan and later participated in numerous operations in WWII helping To secure victory over Nazi Germany and Japan alike

Weddington is a small town located in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. Weddington is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Weddington was James Weddington, who arrived in 1798. The land that now makes up Weddington was granted to him by General Alexander Macon as part of an agreement between the two men. In 1819, John Coker and his family founded what would become Coker's Store on present dayMain Street in Weddington. In 1857, Drury Lane Baptist Church was built and served as the community's religious center until it burned down in 1955. In 1865, a post office called "Weddington" was established at a location about half way between what is now Main Street and Patterson Road; this office remained in operation until 1862 when it became part of the newly created Rutherford County seat of Raleigh. In 1865 also came new development along Patterson Road with the erection of a few homes and businesses which were soon followed by further development around what is now Main Street including Winton House (now home to Grady College), which opened its doors for business on November 3rd, 1866. It wasn't until 1886 that weddington proper began togrow with additions such as Ford School (later renamed Springdale Elementary) and First Presbyterian Church (now known as First Baptist). That same year saw another major addition to the community when Battle Creek Railroad reached town from Gastonia through Guntersville and then crossed over into Rutherford County northeast of town onpresent dayRoute 460. This initial railroad expansion not only brought new people into Weddinton but also introduced many new industries including lumbering and manufacturing which continue to be important parts of town today! It wasn't until 1907 that weddington officially became part of Charlotte - Mecklenburg Counties! At this time new shopping areas emerged such as Chathamtown Shopping Center off Park Avenue north of Town Square while other larger developments such as Armoury Drive went completion later that same year including Strouds Mills which would house some large well-known retailers throughout most of the 20th century! Finally during the 1960s another major development took place when developer Julius Barnes purchased properties north sideof Main Street near present day Pruitt Boulevard for use as an agricultural research station known today as UNC Chapel Hill Agricultural Research Station! This project led directly to increased traffic onto main street throughoutWeddington thanks largely to North Carolina State University students studying agriculture there during those years! TodayWeddington continues its steady growth with more residents arriving each month with even greater opportunities for economic prosperity!.
In 1775, the British army landed on North Carolina's coast and began besieging Fort Duquesne. The fort was defended by a small force of Native American warriors led by Chief Pontiac. The British were eventually successful in breaching the fort's defenses and conquering the nearby town of Wilmington. This event helped cement English control over what is now North Carolina and laid the groundwork for future English settlements in the state.
