When Americans first set eyes on coffee in the early 1800s, they were likely introduced to the drink by natives of South America. After tasting this new coffee bean and its unique flavor, farmers and traders began importing coffee from all over the world. This importation led to a wealth of different coffees each with its own unique flavors and aromas. One of the earliest places where coffee was roasted was in Wake Forest, North Carolina. The town was home to one of the most important roasters in the country at that time, David Price Coffee Company. In 1929, Price Coffee merged with another influential company, Peet's Coffee Company. This merger resulted in Peet's becoming one of the largestcoffee companies in America. The history of artisan coffee in Wake Forest, North Carolina can be traced back to the early 1800s. Some of the first coffee shops in town were founded by various farmers and businessmen who were interested in providing a local source for their products. In 1892, Donny O’Neill opened the first all-day coffee shop in town. The shop was known for its unique roast method - it would roast beans on site, rather than processing them through a second step. Over the years, other prominent Coffee shops such as The Spot and Donnelley's opened up around town. By the late 1960s, most of Wake Forest's cafe scene had disappeared and only a few remaining businesses continued to sell artisan coffee. However, over time, many new cafes have started up throughout the city and county, including Bellaire Coffee Cooperative which has been located in downtown Wake Forest since 2006.

Wake Forest is a private, coeducational university located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The school was founded in 1892 and offers undergraduate degree programs in arts and sciences, business, education, health care administration, law, andology, music, nursing/healthcare administration/patient care services, public administration and security studies. Wake Forest has been ranked as one of the "top 10" universities by U.S. News & World Report for over 50 years and has won nearly half of all the national academic awards given out by the organization. The Office of Admissions[1] processes applications from students from around the world. In 2016-17[2], Wake Forest's enrollment was 25% more than its original target size of 20%, making it one of the fastest growing universities in America. The university has a rich history that goes back to 1892 when James Buchanan Randolph donated land to be used for education purposes on which Wake Forest would grow into what it is today.wakeforest.edu became available on October 1stth 1912,[3][4] just three years after Randolph's donation led to the establishment of UNC Chapel Hill as North Carolina's first collegiate institution.[5][6] In 1865 United States President Abraham Lincoln bestowed an honorary LLM degree upon Drury College graduate Robert Easley who had fought at Antietam during the American Civil War[7]. Drury College later became Wake Forest University in 1892,[8] becoming one of North Carolina's four founding colleges along with UNC Chapel Hill (1861), Davidson (1870), and Raleigh (1882). In 1915–16[9], Wofford College graduate John Heisman served as chancellor while George Carver served as vice chancellor for research and instruction; both men went on to become presidents at Clemson University beforebecoming president at Wake Forest where they remain to this day.[10] In 1972-73 Roger Williams University graduate Bill Lynn set up coursework at Wake Forest entitled "The Creationist Movement,"later renamed "Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology." Lynn's classes were met with critical acclaim by many professors throughoutthe USA who saw his new program as an important contributiontothefieldof archaeology[11][12]. As coffee started to become popular in the late 1800s, different regions of the world experienced unique styles and methods of brewing. In some places, farmers would roast their own beans, while others used more expensive beans from other countries. As coffee became more popular, people began to create their own blends and variations of this drink. Some of the first artisan coffee roasters were located in Switzerland and Italy. These roasters believed that quality was something that came from within, and they spent time learning about different techniques and grinding their beans until they had a perfect flavor. Over time, these roasters developed their own unique style which can still be found today. In the early 2000s, a group of enthusiasts decided to start a small business called The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company (CBT). CBT was designed to bring back traditional artisanal coffeestyle by hand-processing the beans themselves. This allowed them to use high-quality ingredients and flavors which made for an amazing cup of espresso or tea. CBT has since expanded into multiple locations all over America, Europe, Asia Minor and South Africa.

There is a long and varied history of artisan coffee. The first café in the world was founded by Italian immigrants in 1826, and this trend continued through to the 1890s. Coffeehouses played an important role in the development of cafes and later, restaurants, but they were also crucial in the early days of espresso production.

Wake Forest University is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the United States. The university has a rich history dating back to 1795, when it was founded as Wakefield School of Divinity. In 1847, Wake Forest became an all-male institution, and in 1888 it became the first women’s university in North Carolina.
