The history of coffee in Thomasville, North Carolina can be traced back to the early 1800s. In that time, coffee was a popular drink and was often enjoyed by locals and other residents of the area. One of the earliest Coffee Shops in town was established in 1802. The shop continued to serve coffee until around 1870 when it closed its doors for good. One of the first people to roast their own beans and sell them outside of town was Elijah Edwards who lived just down the street from White Sulphur Springs Coffee Company on Walnut Street. He started roasting beans and selling them directly to customers in 1851. By 1865, Elijah's son-in-law, Hiram Searcy had opened his own Coffee Shop on Second Street which soon became known as The Searcy House because it served both local residents and visitors alike. During this time, there were many different types of coffee available including Dutch Bros., Peet's, Dutch' Own, Fordham & Sons and even Italian Roasters! Over time, many more shops have opened up throughout town offering their unique blends of coffee than can be mention here! It is safe to say that Thomasville has long been home to some of the best iced coffees in all of North Carolina!
