Tactical Coffee History in Statesville, North Carolina began in the early 1920s when local businessmen, including W.H. "Red" Smith and E.M. Carden, decided to start their own business selling coffee and donuts from a small storefront on the corner of Church and Main streets. This early business was led by Mr. Carden, who converted an old mill into a café/tavern named The Gilded Cage which served as the company's headquarters for many years. From this humble beginning, Tactical Coffee grew quickly into one of the most successful small businesses in Statesville – serving up delicious cup of Joe every day! Over time, Tactical Coffee diversified its operations and began producing different types of coffee products such as milk pails (for home consumption), iced drinks (such as root beer floats), bagels with cream cheese or jelly fillings (our signature product), and more! In recent years, we've also ventured into the baking world by opening our first donut shop – featuring hand-rolled doughnuts made fresh daily in-house! Statesville is a town located in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. The population was 1,541 at the 2000 census. It is the only incorporated town in Cabarrus County. Statesville was founded in 1809 by colonists from Virginia and named for James Stroud, an American Revolutionary War soldier and member of the Provincial Congress from North Carolina. The first post office was established in 1810. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.6 square miles (9 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,541 people, 519 households, and 406 families residing in the town. The population density was 258.8 people per square mile (101.2/km²). There were 692 housing units at an average density of 124.4 per square mile (47.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White and 2% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; and 2% from two or more races. The coffee was brewed using military-grade beans and served cold, during Combat Zones. In the late 1980s, Tactical Coffee began importing its own beans from Africa. This allowed them to create their own blend, as well as improve upon older blends that were available on the market. In 2003, they opened an espresso bar called "The Bunker" in downtown Philadelphia which became a popular tourist spot for coffee lovers of all ages. Today, Tactical Coffee continues to provide quality coffee at an affordable price point across multiple locations around the country.
