Air Force gift history in Statesville, North Carolina began with the induction of the United States Air Force on August 16, 1947. The USAF was created as a result of the National Security Act of 1947, which amended the US Constitution to give the President power to establish an air force. The USAF was activated on September 3, 1947 and became operational on October 1, 1947. On December 12, 1948, General Curtis LeMay assumed command of the USAF and placed it under his wing. From its inception through 1999, when it was renamed Air Combat Command (ACC), the USAF has bestowed more than 1,500 gifts upon citizens and military personnel from across the country. The first major gift given by the USAF to Statesville was a Boeing 727-200 airliner purchased from American Airlines for $2 million in 1951. This plane served as Headquarters Squadron 506 at Willow Grove AFB untilactivated on July 30th 1959 and replaced by an McDonnell Douglas DC-7E/F aircraft donated by General Curtis LeMay himself. In 1977, UH-1 Hueys were gifted to Statesville AFB for use as either aerial refueling or medical support missions over Vietnam during Operation Rolling Thunder. The following year saw another major donation when General Electric donated two KC-135 Stratotankers to be used as primary tanker aircraft for ACC’s newly formed Task Group 121 “Stratospheric Flight” program; these planes would serve in this role until they were retired in 1988! In 1990, a Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules cargo airplane was gifted to Statesville AFB specifically for use as an interim surveillance platform during Operation Desert Storm; this plane flew strategic reconnaissance missions over Iraq before being grounded after only six months service! In 1992 – just four years after its activation – ACC received its first jet fighter aircraft when Republic Aviation Corporation donated two F-16 Fighting Falcons - both serial number 519 -to be used primarily within Tactical Fighter Command (TFC). These planes served with TFC until 1995 when they were transferred back to Republic Aviation Corporation form ACC proper! It is interesting to note that even though jets have been gifted unto STATESVILLE AIR FORCE HISTORY since its inception – many have come full circle: In 2001 Bob Armstrong donated his formerly vintage World War II PBY Catalina flying boat - which had been languishing at Naval Air Station Kings Bay GA - back into service withACC’s Helicopter Operations Squadron (HOS) ! In recent years there has been a trend towardsGiving stationary items instead of machines or technology products; for example North Carolina State University's "Walking Wall" exhibit dedicated entirely to memorabilia associated with NC State athletic teams dating back To 1888! This season marks alsothe 10th anniversary ofacc's establishment as part of Air Combat Command!! Since then numerous gifts have been bestowed upon civilian members and servicemen stationed throughout our great nation! These include fragile but beautiful glass art pieces depicting wartime aerial bombardments in Europe; unique stuffed animals representing every type of squadron or combat mission flown over Afghanistan or Iraq during that time period; ceremonial swords made exclusively for ACC members stationed overseas...the list goes on and on!

The Statesville-based air force gift history began on December 9, 1942 when the United States Air Force activated its first squadron of Lockheed P-38 Lightnings. The unit was known as "The Fighting Falcons". The initial gift given by the USAF to the city of Statesville was a Spitfire fighter aircraft. In 1944, when World War II ended and Korea began, the United States Air Force donated two A-4 Skyhawks to the City of Statesville for use in its military police department. In 1957, when North Carolina became a state, the USAF donated an F-86 Sabre jetfighter to be used by State Troopers in support of their law enforcement efforts. On October 12, 1958, AFB Charlotte gifted a T-6 Texan trainer aircraft to AFB Statesville in memory of its long time wingman and friend Lieutenant Colonel Randal W. Hinton who had passed away several months earlier from a heart attack at age 57 years old. This was followed by another AFB Charlotte donation in 1961 which was an E-2 Hawkeye airborne command post/control system for state troopers operating within FAA airspace. In 1984, when AFB Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Hickory (JBMD) opened its gates after more than 50 years being closed off due to budget cuts within the US Air Force Reserve Command network structure, one of the first gifts received by HQ JBMD was an F-15 Eagle fighter jet trainer from Wright Patterson International Airport in Ohio which served as ground training duty for new controllers/pilots assigned to JBMD during Operation Desert Storm back in 1991.
Statesville, North Carolina is a small town located in the southern part of the state of North Carolina. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Elizabeth City–Kings Mountain–Benton County, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Statesville was founded in 1792 by Colonel John Forbes as a trading post on Catawba River. The original name for Statesville was simply "Forsyth". In 1834, it became the capital of Cumberland County and remained that way until 1907 when it became the capital of new Cumberland County, NC. The first store in Statesville opened its doors on May 3, 1792, in what is now called Third Street. At that time there were only five families living and working in Statesville. By 1800 there were over sixty families residing here including twenty-nine from Scotland and six from Ireland. In 1834, when Cumberland County was created and Statesville became its capital, all stores within its boundaries were closed except one which continued to operate under the name "Forsyth" until 1907 when it changed to "Statesville". Today less than 1% of statesvillers still call themselves "Forsyth". Many who do are descended from those who did so back then and many more because their ancestors came during or after America's great migration period known as the Great Migration started in 1916 when World War I ended and they could finally come home to their native land again! In 1801 William Smythe donated three acres (0.81 hectares) northeast of present day Fourth Street for use as a courthouse square where county meetings would be held; this square would later become known as Smythe Park today. Also built during this time were two other courthouse buildings - one on Main Street (now US 20) near where First Baptist Church now stands and another building on what is now Fifth Street just south of Interstate 95). On September 3rd, 1806 James Gist purchased two rods east of present day Second Street for $5 from Captain Samuel Dickson whose slave Trotter had been captured by General Andrew Johnson while serving with him at Fort Sumter during the American Civil War! A plat for this property had been filed with local officials but no deed ever appeared because Johnson never laid hands upon it! It has been said that Gist may have given up his interest because he realized that Johnston would not attack Confederate forces besieging Petersburg without an assault force available! After several attempts by State officials to purchaseiodGist's land failed road builders began work on a Turnpike connecting Elizabeth City with Henderson (later Asheville) so traffic could be diverted away from Sumter should Johnston decide to storm it). This highway is also currently named Forsyth Boulevard after Colonel John Forbes' old trading post which once served as both his court house and office complex! Although Fayetteville Farmstead lies just west of Interstate 95 between US 22nd & 23rd Streets today nothing ever grew there due to lack of water supply or soil looseness making farming difficult; however some development occurred around New Market Road northwest OF I-95 though most activity took place along US 22ndStreet! For years there have been yearly events held at Fayetteville celebrating agricultural heritage within walking distance dunes overlooking Lake Eno Calhoun today!! One such event took place last year attracting over 100 participants!!! Another early milestone associated with Statesville happened when Drury’s Store burned down on October 13th “en route” to Lexington where General Robert Ewell was headquartered – an event disastrous enough that Jno Pemberton replaced Drury as proprietor before beginning construction on his largest storehouse yet – appropriately called Ebenezer Pemberton House – visible today atop KY 421 just east off Old Hwy 985 South between Whitesburg Rd & Blacksburg Rd !! This structure served primarily as Ebenezer Pemberton’s medical office throughout much of his life (& latterly operated by Williams Med Co.)!) From here patients traveled 150 miles (240 kilometers) each way via wagon or horseback across twelve days journeying through four counties (!), sometimes stopping enroute at Kingston & Ninety Mile Caves etc., before finally reaching Ebenezar Pemberton’s doorstep…..today marks 4 centuries since Drury’s Store burned downSometime prior to 1830 EbenezerPemberton engaged Revd Josiah Gardner (1786-1864,) pastorof First Presbyterian Church Built about 1800 opposite site occupiedby Drury’s StoreThis first Presbyterian church also stood destroyed about 1840 but rebuilt about 1870 next doorto EbenezerPemberton Housebefore being moved 2 blocks further West towards DeKalb sqr line circa 1880………Drury reappeared locally sometime before 1830 having removed temporarilyfrom Elizabeth City due TO Revolutionary hostilities although still doing business outoftown via [Interstate] 40 thru [US 421]….Today only one remaining building remains standing altered@ considerable fire damage c1900: Ebenezer Pemberton House @ www.emporiumhistoryconnections dot com
The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of gifting gifts to its citizens. From the Wright brothers’ pioneering flight, to the space program, the USAF has given back through donations, grants and purchases. In 2015, the USAF announced that it would be giving away over $250 million in gift certificates and other products from its inventory. This gift is a testament to the USAF’s commitment to serve its citizens and support their needs. The first air force gift was given in 1907 when General George Custer gave a gold watch to Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh for his successful transatlantic flight. The USAF also bestowed honours on many notable individuals throughout its history including generals Walter Bedell Smith and Curtis LeMay; astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin; and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Gifts have continued to be given with an emphasis on service to society as well as providing tangible gifts such as computers or aircraft parts. Today, the USAF continues its tradition of giving back by donating time or resources towards various worthy causes both domestically and abroad. These contributions include supporting military families during deployment, disaster relief efforts, lending support to troops worldwide through Operation Blessing, providing scholarships for military children and more.

Statesville was founded by the Cowan family in 1819. The town was named for General John C. Cowan, who fought in the American Revolution and then served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention that created the United States of America. The town was incorporated in 1832, and became a slaveholding state after the Civil War. In 1865, Statesville seceded from North Carolina and became part of South Carolina. The town lost its status as an agricultural center after World War II, but it has regained some of its former prominence as a bedroom community for Charlotte.
