Since its inception as a small unit within the National Guard, North Carolina’s National Guard has grown increasingly diverse both geographically and temporally – ranging from Combat Arms Units (CAUs) assigned specifically to fight against terrorism domestically (such as Operation Neptune Spear),to state-level units made up almost completely of volunteer members (such as Task Force Palmetto). In Fiscal Year 2017 alone, Governor Roy Cooper designated $27 million worth of additional resources available statewide for NCNG programs - making it clear that this community-owned organization is not only relevant but growing more important than ever before!

Rocky Mount is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,624 at the 2010 census. Rocky Mount is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. It is located on the border of Wake and Durham counties and includes the villages of Hillsborough, Rocky Mount, and West End. The town was founded in 1827 by Scots-Irish immigrants who had come to America as slaves. The first post office opened in 1829. A mill operated in Rocky Mount from 1833 to 1865; it became an agricultural cooperative in 1966. In 1880, a group of Presbyterian ministers purchased 8 acres (3 ha) of land east of downtown for use as a church school; they named it Stonington School after their pastor there. After several years of construction, the new Carnegie Library was dedicated on October 10, 1902. In 1907, local farmers organized what became known as "The Rural Electrification Association" to build electric power lines through RockyMount and other towns in northern Wake County so that people could have electricity without having to go outside to get it. The town's first electric grid was installed in 1928; services were extended to all properties within two years. By 1931, over 100 businesses had been served byelectricity! Rocky Mount experienced significant growth following World War II; during this time its economy soared thanks to wartime spending by the United States government on defense materials and equipment production as well as military housing developments such as Fort Bragg (1946), McChord Air Force Base (1948), Hollywood Park (1950), Morehead Army Airfield (1951), Camp Blanding Air Force Base (1952), Robins Air Force Base (1960). Thanks also to women's participation in workforce gains during this time: after 1945 RockyMount saw an influx of female nurses called home from deployments throughout Southeast Asia and Japan; many women found work here while their husbands remained behind at home with family responsibilities

The town quickly became a center for slave-based economic activity and social life. Slaveholders in Rocky Mount rented out workers to other plantations in order to produce sugar cane crops. Rocky Mount is located on Roanoke Island, which was also an early English settlement on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. As a result, Rocky Mount has strong ties to both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1932, when UNC Chapel Hill announced its decision not to offer any courses at Appalachian State University because it considered Appalachian students "too white," Rocky Mount's mayor Driscoll lobbied unsuccessfully for UNC Chapel Hill's inclusion into Appalachian State's then-larger student body. After twenty years of lobbying, UNC Chapel Hill finally admitted African American students as full members in 1957. Since then, RockyMounts economy has diversified significantly with several businesses opening up around Gaston County including real estate development andconstruction services as well as restaurants and bars catering specifically to African Americans living within Gaston County limits (the first African American business opened in Gaston County back in 1960). Today there are over 50 different businesses operating within Gaston County alone that cater specifically towards African Americans living within its boundaries
