In 1995, First National purchased Gourmet Coffee from Jerome Wooten's parents-in-law which gave rise to the current name - Gourmet Coffee Corporation (GCC). Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina is a town in the U.S. state of North Carolina and is part of the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area. The population was estimated at 21,711 as of 2019. Roanoke Rapids lies on the Yadkin River about fifteen miles northeast of Raleigh and twenty-five miles south of Durham. It is bordered by Wilson to the east, Scotsboro to the north, Cary to the west, and Chapel Hill to the south. The first permanent settler in Roanoke Rapids was James Cook who arrived in 1786 and named it after his home village ofRPiemonte in Italy. Cook's First Parish Church still stands today and is a contributing property to Roanoke Rapids Historic District which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. In 1868, John Hargrave moved from Scotsboro with his family into what would become Roanoke Rapids when he purchased 3 acres (1 km²) along the Yadkin River from Elisha Cooke for $350 cash only! He began building a log cabin that served as his home until 1872 when he replaced it with a more modern structure incorporating fieldstone walls and brick chimneys. In 1903, Hargrave donated land across from his original cabin to be developed into what became known as "Hargrave Park." This park offers forested walks with stone seats under shade trees; play areas for children; an open-air gymnasium; grills for cooking purposes; fishing boats available for rental; and office buildings used by local officials including school trustees, postmasters, water commissioners etc.. Today there are several structures remaining from this 1800s development including Hargrake House (now an event center), Hiscox Store/Former Post Office (now a hotel), Cooke House(still standing but converted into apartments), and Cook Road Baptist Church which features hand carved graniteitecture dating back to 1875! During World War II many residents relocated their families or left during mobilization due to lack of housing opportunities postwar across much of eastern North Carolina . Some notable individuals who madeovet: Mayor Edward Bokofsky (1941-1945); Mrs., Florence Frazier Hodges (1945-1949); Mrs., Lillian Dooley McGeehan (1950-1959); Revd Dr., Julius Nyquist Purdy (1960-1963). Afterward life returned back to normalcy until African Americans were integrated in Systematic Unification Church et al v United States 5th Circuit Court Case No.: 371 UF 9Civil Rights Trial - October 1965 Governor Roy Cooper issued Executive Order #9109 establishing Race segregation at all public institutions within NC A majority black UNC student body protested against this order while classes continued without disruption however they eventually withdrew their protest following successful court action led by Chancellor Richard Jordan
