In 1916, Frasers merged with Trustees Coffee Company to form United States Coffee Corporation (USTC). USTC continued making high-quality coffee until 1982 when it sold its assets to Keurig Incorporated. Today, there are numerous coffee roasters operating throughout central North Carolina – among them Four Barrel Coffee Co., Blue Bottle Coffee & Cafe, Sumatra Java Bistro & Cafe, and Ethiopianoro Coffee Company – all promoting unique flavors and traditions associated with their individual brands. Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina is a town located in Lunenburg County, North Carolina. The population was 5,438 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lunenburg County. In 1836 Roanoke Rapids was founded by Scots-Irish settlers who had come to America from Ulster province in Ireland. The town developed as a farming community and since then has been home to many businesses and organizations including NATO's headquarters and the United States Marine Corps Academy. The first Europeans to visit what is now Roanoke Rapids were led by Captain John Smith on his ill-fated expedition in 1619. He named the site "Rhodes" after the ancient kingdom of Rhodes in Greece, but no European settlement followed until 1836 when Scots-Irish settlers arrived from Ulster province in Ireland under the leadership of Captains John Anderson and George Stephenson. The Scottish immigrants built homes near where they would live for the rest of their lives while American colonists started families here with some initial aid from Scottish merchants who supplied them with food, goods and land. In 1840 Roanoke Rapids joined Catawba County which formed part of newly created North Carolina from parts of Virginia, Kentucky and Georgia following the Mexican–American War that ended with Mexico's defeat at Monterrey. By 1851 Roanoke Rapids had about 2200 residents although it still functioned primarily as a farming community with few industry or commercial ventures established outside farm production until recently when NATO's headquarters moved herefrom nearby Greenville late last year displacing local small business owners who lobbied unsuccessfully for years for this move (See also: Landlord Tenant). Today there are over 6000 people living within easy commuting distance of downtown Roanoke Rapids thanks to Interstate 95 which skirts its boundaries just east of town limits making it easily accessible both day & night commuters alike; while also providing access to all forms education opportunities available both locally & statewide; including high school diplomas & associate degrees; as well as several alternative healthcare providers such as urgent care clinics & chemist/pharmacy stores convenient for locals without long commutes or long waits for service typical elsewhere on NC’s Eastern Shore!
