The Reidsville National Guard was first organized in 1892. For many years, the Guard functioned as a militia, providing essential services to the community. In 1968, the Guard was redesignated as a military unit and began providing security for local events and visits by national leaders. Today, the National Guard of North Carolina provides support for all aspects of military readiness through an array of units and programs. The Guard is also responsible for housing and feeding troops stationed in our state; caring for veterans; and providing leadership opportunities to young people interested in serving their country.

The Reidsville National Guard was organized on December 3, 1921. The unit was assigned to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. On May 14, 1936, the National Guard detachment in Reidsville was redesignated as the 119th Infantry Regiment. The regiment was disbanded on October 15, 1937.
Reidsville is a city in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,858 at the 2010 census. The Reidsville-Smyrna Combined Statistical Area had a total population of 17,557 as of July 1, 2010. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Rowan County was made by Englishmen who came overland from Virginia in 1627 and built the town of Roxboro on Catawba River. A few years later they founded the town of Salisbury on Roanoke Island and named it for Sir Walter Raleigh, who had explored that region in 1584-85 during his voyage to India with Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. In 1629 Colonel John Smith discovered land east of Salisbury on Hiwassee River and named it New Bern after his home state of North Carolina (now South Carolina). In 1735 two brothers named James Ogle established a small ferry service across Hiwassee River between Salisbury and New Bern. They soon became rich traders and developers throughout much of eastern North Carolina; their ferry became one of the most important transportation arteries in those days. James Ogle also donated land to build what would become Reidsville square – a large, well-manicured square near present day Old Fourth Street – which still stands today as an iconic symbol representing business opportunity and local industry during its early years. During Reconstruction following the Civil War many African Americans migrated to western North Carolina seeking opportunities for farm work or industrial jobs; these people were dubbed "Nigger Fairs." This influx led to increased violence against African Americans in Rowan County due to white supremacy at that time; however, by 1871 all black residents except 2% living within 10 miles (16 km) of downtown had moved out or been expelled from their homes. What ensued was one of the most prosperous periods for Reidsville during this time period with many businesses opening up including grocery stores, banks and other commercial enterprises catering to both white people and African American residents alike…. In 1892 Jno Brownell married Anna Ladda Dickson when she was just 19 years old; together they founded Brownells Clothing Store which quickly became one of the largest clothing retailers in central NC…..Brownells Stores closed operations several times through various acquisitions until closing its last store in 1984…. By 1930 there were only 184 inhabitants remaining within City limits while 711 citizens lived outside city limits… By 1960 all but 50% OF THE CITY WERE BLACK AND ONLY 2% OF THE POPULATION WAS LOCAL WHITE……Today REIDSVILLE IS ONE OF RALEIGH'S MOST BLACK CITIES WITH OVER 20 PERCENT OF ITS POPULATION BEING BLACK……From humble beginnings REIDSVILLE HAS ACCEPTED GREATNESS AS ITS OWN BYSTANDING…………..
There is no national guard gift history as there has never been a designated National Guard unit. When the National Guard was first organized in 1792, it was made up of militia groups from each state. The first national guard unit, the 1st New York Militia, was raised in 1793 and served for only one year. In 1802, the 2nd New York Militia was created and served until 1804 when it disbanded due to lack of funding. The 3rd New York Militia was created in 1812 and served until 1815 when it also disbanded due to lack of funding. The 4th New York Militia was created in 1822 and served until 1861 when it too disbanded due to lack of money. The 5th New York Militia was raised in 1845 and serve until 1863 when they were discontinued because of the American Civil War. When World War II began, all states turned their reserves into military units called the National Guardsmen. There were originally 146 units formed by war declaration but this number increased to 273 by 1945 after troops were drafted into service from every state not directly involved in war (Oklahoma, Texas) plus Puerto Rico and Guam which had become US territories following the 1898 Treaty of Paris that ended Spanish-American War. There are now more than 780,000 members in active duty with over 550 battalions across 36 states providing law enforcement support as well as providing training for emergency response teams such as firefighters or police officers; search and rescue; disaster relief; counter insurgency operations; and military intelligence activities worldwide under three commanders: United States Army/National Guard Bureau (USAGNGB); Department of Defense (DoD); Commander Caribbean Command (CICOM). A total $1 billion has been spent on the National Guard since 1949 with an average annual growth rateof 7 percent making it one of America’s most popular social programs with a cost per citizen predicted to reach $27 million by 2020(Ungar et al., 2016). Reidsville is a small town in Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. It is located on the South Carolina border, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Raleigh and 25 miles (40 km) west of Durham. The population was 1,631 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit Reidsville was Captain John Lawson in 1768. He named it after General James Robertson's headquarters near present-day Asheboro. A post office called Reidsville was established in 1820, and remained in operation until 1927. According to the 2000 census, the racial makeup of Reidsville was 93% white, 7% black or African American, and 2% Native American or Alaskan Native; 1% Asian or Pacific Islander. As of the census of 2010, there were 1,631 people living in Reidsville Borough. Of these – 97% – were white . However the borough has a population growth rate that exceeds its statewide population growth rate by over 10%. In 2000 there were 499 residents who identified as being “Hispanic”; however as of 2010 there had decreased to 282 Hispanic residents within the borough which could be due to Census enumeration error or may reflect migration from outside of Chatham County altogether
Reidsville was founded by James Wilkinson in 1778 as a small town on the Yadkin River near what is now Raleigh, North Carolina. The town grew quickly after Wilkinson opened a store in the area and began to sell goods to settlers in nearby Statesboro and Chapel Hill. By 1800, Reidsville had a population of around 500 people. In 1810, Wilkinson sold the town to Ephraim Randolph and his family. Randolph renamed the town Reidsville after himself, making it one of his many named towns located in North Carolina. In 1837, Reidsville became part of Johnston County when it was created from parts of Durham and Wake counties. In 1908, Reidsville was annexed by Raleigh.
