The United States Air Force deploys a wide variety of gifts to individuals and organizations around the globe. These gifts represented American President Harry S Truman's efforts to maintain good relations between the United States and its adversaries during his time in office. The following year, in 1952, the USAF gifted five F-86 Sabre jets to Greece. This gift represented American support for Greece during their struggle against Nazi Germany. In 1955, the United States donated an A-6 Intruder jet fighter to West Germany as a gift of friendship and assistance in their Cold War against Communism. This donation marked one of America's most important military donations since World War II. In 1957, America gifted two Gloster Meteor Mk1 jets as a goodwill gesture to Portugal after they were involved in a civil war with Spain over control of Portuguese Africa. This act showed America's support for Portugal during their time of need. In 1958, America sent three Douglas DA-4 Skyraiders as a goodwill gift to Great Britain after their participation in NATO's effort against Czechoslovakia. This act demonstrated American resolve in support of Allied forces during this difficult period of history.
