The Coast Guard Station Pinehurst was established in 1928 and has been serving the community of Pinehurst since then. The station is located on Beach Road in the heart of town and provides a variety of services to residents, including law enforcement, firefighting, navigation, and rescue. In 1978, the Coast Guard Station opened an annex on Highway 1 which served as a barracks for the marine unit stationed at Pinehurst. The Marine Unit moved out in 1986 and their barracks were converted into a bed-and-breakfast inn called Harbour House Inn. The inn closed in 2001 but it was reopened as the Coastal Patrol Station Inn in 2003. In 2007, the station added a gift shop to its property which currently serves as its office. The Coast Guard has been in Pinehurst for over 140 years. The present Coast Guard Station was built in 1915 and is the oldest active Coast Guard station on the Eastern Seaboard.
Pinehurst is a small town in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Asheville-Cordova Combined Statistical Area. Pinehurst is located on the Buncombe and Cherokee Rivers. The first settlers to what is now Pinehurst were families of Scots-Irish extraction who arrived in 1792 from County Antrim, Northern Ireland. They built homes on the banks of the River Chafee and started a small agricultural community that prospered until 1851 when railroads brought competition and assembly lines came to town. In 1902, pine trees were planted as part of a state park system campaign by Governor James Mancey,Jr.. In 1911, General Robert E Lee’s home was purchased for $5,000 by Representative John Latham Sr., founder of Latham Paper Company which became one of the largest paper companies in America. After World War I (1914-18), many farm families left for US military bases overseas and much of Pinehurst changed hands between owners during this time period; some examples being: Latham Paper company’s purchase in 1918 of land near Ft Bragg for use as an artillery range; Biltmore estate sale in 1923 which included 6 acres where pine trees were planted; Hargrave family’s acquisition of parts of Pinehurst after their ancestor Colonel William Swann had fought with Gadsden Infantry Regiment against Confederate forces at Second Battle Of Bull Run (April 1861); finally White House gift to Mrs. Franklin D Roosevelt in 1945 along with other federal property bought by him during his gubernatorial term as NC Governor including Spruce Timber lumber mills on Neuse River valley south side). In 1961 voters approved an ordinance setting up school facilities within walking distance (then only a few hundred yards)of all residences within blocks bounded by Fourth Street east, Fifth Avenue westward bisecting Broad Street northward and Highway 20 southward – thus making Pinehurst one municipality among numerous townships or villages throughout Buncombe County established through such ordinances over succeeding years! Today hoisting flags from atop state government buildings can be seen everywhere outside municipal limits! This unusual formality continued until 1971 when county officials decided that “the more things change…the more they stay the same” so new Townships/Villages were set up all around Buncombe County – something that continues to this day! Some examples are Altamont Woods Township (established 1963), Millsaps Township (established 1965), Butner Village Township(established 1966), Laurence City Township(established 1967), Rutherfordton Village(created 1969), Bladenboro Township(created 1971). Municipalities continue to be formed even today outside Municipal boundaries where necessary – such as Thereseville Township established 2001 just north of Hendersonville!). The following year saw establishment adjacent to Chapel Hill township: Lenoir City Corporation! In 2016 amendments went into effect changing voting districts within Buncombe County effective November 16th - see map below ↑ PINEHURST - North Carolina's smallest municipality consisting onlyof two streets connecting two businesses each situated inside an old mill building downtown ol its namesake townland

Pinehurst is a small town in the U.S. state of North Carolina, located on the Yadkin River about 20 miles northeast of Raleigh. The population was 1,282 at the 2010 census. It became a city in 2009 after being annexed by Raleigh. The town was first settled in 1784 by Scots-Irish immigrants who had come to North Carolina from County Donegal, Ireland. In 1827, Pinehurst residents voted to remove themselves from Durham County and form their own government under a charter granted by Governor John Cranch. That same year, they elected their first mayor, James Witherspoon. In 1860, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Easley's cavalry brigade marched through Pinehurst on its way to battle against Union forces near Rocky Mount. Many homes were destroyed or burned as Confederate troops passed through town that day; however, most of the population quickly rebuilt and continued to prosper until 1865 when the war ended and many refugees returned home. In 1870–1871, Pinehurst built its first well-maintained hotel which still stands today—the Hotel Cary—and soon became known for its excellent dining opportunities as well as its wine country wines (important for early shipment into markets). During this time period also began what would be one of Pinehurst's most significant milestones: incorporation as a city with voting rights under the National Constitution Act of 1787 ( ensuing Twenty-Third Amendment granted cityhood in 1909). At that time it was one of only two cities in America without an organized police force separate from city government itself; all law enforcement within City limits was conducted by street officers appointed by Mayor Pugh until 1917 when municipal services were divided between Police Department and City Manager organizationally effective date! The growth of industry brought new business and clientele to downtown Pinehurst while also creating some difficult challenges such as increased traffic congestion caused/affected by burgeoning industries (aluminum smelting operations especially) adjacent to then undeveloped agricultural land used primarily for raising corn and other feed crops; development along both banks of Yadkin River necessitated extensive dredging necessary for navigation improvements leading upriver which created numerous water buffalo herds grazing on newly irrigated land adjacent to shopping centers now popular tourist destinations due largely to environmental remediation efforts initiated following major floods associated with Hurricane Floyd in 1999! Today much evidence remains from these past events including large trees still standing partially submerged above original flood levels providing dramatic views downriver especially during high tide!
