The navy has a long and proud history in Newton, North Carolina. The city was founded by General David Johnston in 1775 as Nashoba Point on the Yadkin River. On November 16th she patrolled off Cape Fear Riverbanks during an air raid that killed one civilian and injured several others before withdrawing under cover of darkness without incident four days later.
