Morganton is a small town in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina that has been brewing coffee for more than 100 years. The first coffee plants were built in the early 1800s in Morganton by farmers who grew coffee beans on their property. Over time, the town developed its own unique style of coffee brewing which has helped it remain one of the most popular communities for roasted and ground coffee in the Southeast. Today, Morganton's signature product is its 90-pound bag of Choice Coffee. Choice Coffee was created in 1984 by two local businessmen, Don and Kathy Bourgeois. At that time, Morganton was one of only a few towns in the Triangle Park area to offer this premium brand of coffee. Today,Choice Coffee is enjoyed by consumers all over the Southeast as well as internationally. The history of small batch coffee is closely intertwined with that of Morganton itself. In 1896, Johnnie Hargrave founded J&J Hargrave & Sons Roasters in Morganton and began manufacturing small batches of espresso and drip coffees from his family's original Java Bean plantation. From these beginnings, J&J Hargrave has become one of the most iconic small batch roaster brands in America today. Today, J&J Hargrave continues to provide high-quality espresso and drip coffees to customers throughout eastern North Carolina and beyond - including some of the most prestigious hotels and restaurants in New York City and Los Angeles County. Bannington creek flows through Morganton and gives its name to one of Morganton's two streets - Bannington Avenue runs east-west near downtown. Morganton has many interesting historical artifacts that can be found on local property such as cannons from the American Revolution and Native American relics dating back to before European contact. In addition, there are several museums located within or around Morganton including the Morgantone Museum of Art which opened in 1984; Morgantone Historical Museum which opened in 1991; and Valley Park Golf Course Museum which opened in 1984. In addition to its downtown area, Morganton also has a small but growing neighborhood called "The Village." This tiny community lies adjacent to Interstate 85/US 29A just south of downtown Morganton and offers access to large shopping malls as well as restaurants, bars and other businesses along I-85/US 29A. The village features new housing developments being built with an emphasis on sustainability and designed for pedestrian traffic with easy access into central downtown Morganto

Morganton is a town in Swain County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. Morganton is the county seat of Swain County. The first European settlers in what is now Morganton were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1796 and established a preaching station on Upland Creek. The first courthouse was built in 1807 and served as the county seat until 1829 when Morganton became the state capital of North Carolina. In 1858, Confederate General Braxton Bragg moved his headquarters from Wilmington to Morganton after his army invaded northern NC. The town grew rapidly during the Civil War with businesses such as textile mills and stores developed around military barracks and artillery batteries that provided munitions for the war effort. In 1865, Morganton was burned by Union troops during the Battle of Gettysburg while Confederate General Robert Ewell was retreating northward following that battle. During Reconstruction following the end of World War II, much development took place in Morganton as black Americans began to arrive from across America seeking new opportunities after being discriminated against during the war years. Many African-American residents worked in local industry or founded their own businesses before moving into larger towns throughout eastern North Carolina beginning in the 1960s when white flight began to occur throughout most southern states following passage of laws such as desegregation laws which prohibited racial discrimination by municipalities within their borders

The town was laid out in 1853 and named for General John Blythe, who had been defeated by Confederate forces at the Battle of Gettysburg. Morganton has a history dating back to 1853 when General John Blythe led a force of Union soldiers against Confederate forces at the Battle of Gettysburg. Morganton was renamed for General Blythe after his victory. The first post office in Morganton was established in 1854. In 1865, Morganton became part of the newly formed Johnston County and remained so until 1971 when it was annexed into Durham County. The town is located on U.S. Route 701 southeast of Raleigh and west of Durham City
