The vision of the coast guard is to protect our coasts and waters. The Coast Guard was established in 1915, and today it provides critical support for coastal communities by helping to prevent criminals, terrorists, and other threats from entering or damaging our shorelines. In Morganton, we are proud to have a long history of supporting the Coast Guard through gifts, donations, and volunteerism. Over time, the Coast Guard has received many donations from individuals and businesses in Morganton. Some of these donations have been large - such as the $5 million that was donated in 2002 to help construct a new headquarters for the Coast Guard in Portsmouth. Other donations have been much smaller - such as $10 worth of candy given to a local elementary school in 2007. In recent years, there has also been an increase in donation requests by the Coast Guard itself. For example, in 2017 they received a request for $100,000 to help fund research on maritime security issues. This year they’ve also received requests for money specifically for coastal safety initiatives - such as $25 thousand for “ enhancement of lifesaving equipment” onshore. These types of requests reflect not only the importance that coastal communities place on having access to essential resources like water and food – but also how much fun it isto contribute something meaningful back into their community!

The North Carolina coast guard is one of the United States' oldest and most veteran law enforcement agencies. The agency was founded in 1836 as a volunteer force to keep the coastline clean and protect shipping. In 1916, the coast guard became an state department with its own budget and staff. The agency's first vessel, a bark named "Morganton", was built in 1847 by W.H. Stevenson at the behest of Governor Jno. C. Smith to serve as a floating checkpoint for boat traffic on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. In 1959, the Coast Guard moved from its original two-ship station at Morganton on Tyner Beach to its present location on Elizabeth Island off Cape Fear River. The island has been used as both headquarters and berth for various vessels including Coast Guard helicopters, tugboats, docked ships, and Landing Craft Airborne (LCA) units during emergencies or other conflicts along coastal areas throughout their history. For more than half a century since it was established as part of the United States Coast Guard Reserve System, NCG has responded quickly and effectively to any emergency situation anywhere in America – whether it is an offshore oil spill or Hurricane Florence slamming into eastern North Carolina – always using our highly trained officers, firefighters and paramedics combined with our state-of-the-art equipment to provide service that keeps people safe and property secure."
Morganton is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. Morganton is part of the Morganton-Winston Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. Morganton was founded by white settlers in 1825 and named for General John B. Morgan who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as governor of North Carolina from 1831 to 1835. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location near new railroads and waterways, as well as its role as an agricultural center. By 1890, Morganton had become one of the most important cotton production towns in America. In 1907, Morganton became an incorporated municipality and experienced rapid growth thanks to its position on the Cumberland River and its access to Interstate 85. However, during World War II much of Morgaton's commercial activity was focused on supplying munitions for the war effort. Today, Morgantomon remains a notably Democratic stronghold with a large African American population; however, many businesses have closed over the years due to lack of support from local government.

Morganton was founded in 1751 by Captain John Morganton and his wife Rebecca. The town was located on the current site of Morganton, North Carolina, about a mile southeast of what is now the community of Goodland. Captain Morganton's plantation extended from present-day Morganton east to Goodland and west to Waccamaw Creek. In 1776, following the American Revolution, Morganton became part of South Carolina. However, it continued to be a part of North Carolina until 1868 when it became a part of Wake County.
