Mooresville is a town in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,788 at the 2010 census. The local paper, the McDowell Gazetteer, first reported on December 12th 1835 that two men had been killed by Indians near Mooresville. On February 2nd 1840 Indian Removal Act of 1830 provided for the forced removal of all Native Americans living within five miles of any white settlement in the United States. The area now contains part of McDowell County and most of eastern Gaston County. The history of Mooresville began with three men: James Witherspoon Moore (1795-1868), his brother Daniel Webster Moore (1802-1885) and Samuel Pritchard (1800-1875). James WitherspoonMoore was a planter from Virginia who moved to McDowell County in 1827 with his family. He started a cotton plantation called "Bennett's Creek", which produced crops for sale and sold slaves to nearby whites. In 1830 Moore married Elizabeth Bennett, daughter of John Bennett, one of the richest farmers in that area. In 1830 James WitherspoonMoore purchased 400 acres (16 km²) east of present day Mooresville from Abraham Richardson for $2 per acre ($24 total). This land formed what is now known as "Richardson's Church Road". For many years this tract was used as pastureland by the Moore family and their slaves until it became available for development in the early 20th century when it became part of what is now known as Gaston County. Daniel WebsterMoore was born on December 2nd 1800 in Prince George's County, Maryland to an old slaveholder family named Randolph and Margaret Nicholson Randolph Jr.. When he was only four years old his father died; his mother took him into her home where she raised him until he turned twenty-one years old when he married Elizabeth Bennett. Daniel WebsterMoore started out working on his own farm until 1850 when he bought some more land west of Gastonia and founded the city limits business enterprise called "Randolph & Webster". In 1859 he married Sarah Spaulding Crouse who was also from Prince George’s County but lived most notably in Baltimore City where she ran a small bakery before moving back to Fredericktown Court House where they operated a laundry services business before becoming parents to six children: Sarah Spaulding Crouse Warner (1860-1941), Harry Pryor Warner (1862-1950), Mildred Lillian Sanford Webb(1864-1947), Lewis Swayne Webb(1866-1937), and Quentin Julian Webb(born August 15th 1870). Over time they acquired additional property around Mooresville until they were finally able to purchase 5500 acres (24 km²) southeast corner parcel which included present day Mooresville Township immediately south side creek bed abutting Big Sandy River about ½ mile long wide extending northeasterly about 8 miles longwidest breadth extending easterly about 10 miles longnorthern boundary line running generally due north bisected by Little Sandy River just above its mouth thence along said stream bed nearly due eastward trending generally westerly almost parallel with said stream bed through much of its length thence due southwesterly trending southerly slightly parallel with said stream bed through much than its length . USS Enterprise was commissioned on September 15th 1950 and served as flagship for Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz during his leadership of Operation Neptune's Spear which destroyed North Vietnam's military infrastructure including their air force and naval bases! She also participated in Operation Coral Sea where she helped defend Japan from an amphibious assault by U.S., Australian and United Kingdom forces while being operated under cover of darkness!
