The name is named for General William Moore and his family who settled there in 1828. Mooresville is located on U.S. Route 28 and ZIP code 27662. The town grew quickly and by 1840 it had a population of around 100 people. By 1851, the population had grown to over 250 people and by 1865 it had reached its current size of around 800 people.
