Mooresville, North Carolina is a small town located in Nash County, North Carolina. The population was 2,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. Mooresville is the home of UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University, as well as a number of smaller colleges and universities. The town has several large shopping malls and several traditional businesses such as banks, grocery stores, lumberyards, and textile mills. The first settlers in what is now Mooresville were farmers who came to the area in 1819 from nearby Rowan County. In 1827, General James Longstreet founded what became known as Longstreet Farm on land that he bought from David Henderson for $1 cash. From this farm began the process that would lead to Mooresville becoming one of America's most important towns. By 1830, many people had moved to Mooresville from surrounding counties because of its location near two major roads: Old Fort Loudoun Road (now US-64) and Henderson Highway (then SR-16). In 1835 a store was built on Main Street by Elijah Foard and operated until 1840 when it burned down due to an accidental fire. A new store was built on Second Street in 1840 by John Crain which continued to be Operated until 1886 when it burned down again due to an accident involving dynamite used for fireworks display at a local fairgrounds.. A wagon road was constructed between Banning Mill Creek on Fourth Street northward about one mile (1 km) after Foard's store before it petered out or was Improvements later made over it by Jno Pritchard & Bros Hardware Store which ran along Third Avenue until 1961 when it closed also due to fire.. The first post office opened in MooresVILLE on November 10th 1880 under name "High Point". It continued operations until January 15th 1888 when mail delivery stopped there with no explanation given why; however subsequent investigations revealed that this stop may have been caused by an issue with postal cards being accepted at the time! Postmasters during these years included: Wm Goudreau(1881-85), Geo Hester(1886-88), Jno Pritchard(1889-91), Chas Weller(1892-93), Mgr O'Neill(1894-96), George Lenoir( 1897-99). There are numerous telephone directories that listMooresVILLE residents including addresses etc but no obituaries have yet been published for any former residents living since 1880 unfortunately!

Mooresville is a town in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. The Mooresville post office has been in operation since 1892. The first settler in present-day Mooresville was James Moore who arrived in 1785 and built a cabin on the banks of the Yadkin River. Moore's family moved to what is now Mooresville from Raleigh in 1814 and named it for General Jonathan Handy, who had helped capture Fort Duquesne during the American Revolution. Colonel John McClellan's army passed through Mooresville on their way to battle at Gettysburg in July 1863 and many local residents likely benefited from this military engagement as supplies and goods transported by rail were available nearby. In 1865, General Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army invaded North Carolina and burned most of Davidson County before besieging Knoxville, thus undefeatedly surrendering his state capital to Union forces three days later. When Reconstruction began following the Civil War, many Union soldiers returned home but moored their boats at local ports until they could be discharged or traded for goods around Mobile Bayou near Jacksonville which extensive cotton plantation work required transportation Furthermore mooredboats became an important link between black slaveowners and white planters across the bayou system prior to emancipation During Reconstruction many African Americans served as riverboat drivers working long hours loading/unloading goods along the lower Yadkin River Some blacks even worked on plantations while others took jobs as janitors or waiters at local restaurants After both World Wars ended much Progressivism occurred within America although some aspects of segregationists legacy remain today Blacks made significant advances during postwar years such as becoming eligible for driver's licenses several decades after being barred from owning cars Many people of color also became employed outside traditional ranks such as starting small businesses Black elected officials continued making progress during these years including; Anthony Weiner (D-NY), Maya Angelou (C-LA), Cory Booker (D-NJ) Barack Obama (D-IL), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) throughout othe states Although there have been occasional reversals major challenges persist such as disparate rates of incarceration compared to other groups Additionally recent studies show that disparities among races continuepolice shootings Despite these challenges many people continue to call MooresVILLE their "Townsend"
