The Mooresville Air Force Base was founded in 1948 as a Republic Aviation plant. The base grew to include the former Mooresville Municipal Airport, which served the area until it was closed in 1984. In 1992, the Air Force acquired land near the airport and built Centerpoint II, which serves as an operating base for many Air National Guard and Reserve units. In 2006, North Carolina became one of 25 states that ratified the United States Constitution Amendments No. 2 and 3, which granted voting rights to African Americans. The amendment also provided for military service by all citizens regardless of race or color. This addition made Mooresville one of only two bases in the United States with a black officer on staff (the other is Fort Gordon). In 2009, Centerpoint III came into operation as the new home of the 5th Wing at Mooresville AFB. The wing provides services to both Air National Guard and Reserve aviation units from throughout North Carolina. Today, Centerpoint III houses more than 100 aircraft shelters and hangars across five levels. It also contains more than 12 million square feet of Real Time Data Acquisition/Messaging (RTDAM) space for use by civilian users such as police departments and business owners who need real-time information about flights or traffic conditions from Aircraft Identification tags (AIDs) on commercial planes.

Mooresville is a town in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg–Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name derives from James Moores, a Welshman who settled in what is now Davidson County in 1795. The first permanent settlers were two families of Ulster Scots refugees who arrived in1798 and named their farm "Moor's Hill." In 1801 they donated land to the Presbyterian church which built a small chapel on the property. In 1814 James Waddell platted the town of Mooresville and named it for him. He had come to Nc in 1810 as surveyor for Wake County and surveyed most of what is now Davidson County. In 1819 David Hogg organized a wagon trainLoaded with goods from Kentucky under the leadership of Captain John Crain and headed northwest through what are now Cherokee Nation and Johnston County to Jackson, Tennessee where he sold his goods to General Andrew Jackson for $2,500 cash plus 10% interest on each purchase. After reaching Knoxville they unloaded their cargo at Mockingbird Creek before continuing northwestward through Hardeman County into western Tennessee where they reached Nashville on April 12,1819 Captain John Crain became one of the first white men killed in the War Betweenthe States when he was shot by Confederate Cavalry near Chattanooga on July 15th 1861 while leading an escort mission to bring supplies to General Union troops besieged inside that city
Moses Mooresville was founded in 1798 by Moses and his wife, Rachel. The town was named after General Benjamin Lincoln who helped drive the Cherokee out of North Carolina in 1813. In 1841, the town became a part of Charlotte and was renamed Mooresville again.
