Lumberton is a town in Robeson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Robeson County. The first settler in Lumberton was James Hargrave in 1794. In 1828, Lumberton became part of Henderson County. In 1868, it became part of Robeson County. Lumberton was founded on May 12, 1800 by John Metcalf and his brother Richard Metcalf as a Methodist church settlement on the site of an old millrace along the Yadkin River. The name "Lumberton" originated with Captain James Hargrave (1794-1868), who named the town after his lumber company's sawmill located near present-day Tellico Plains east of Lumberton Limits Road. In 1827, Henderson County voted to become independent from Robeson County and formed its own government under the leadership of George Washington Hardee (1807-1863). Henderson Counties continued to be combined with Robeson until 1889 when they were each formed into their own individual counties again due to population growth within Robeson itself and also because more than one county could not support both a courthouse and jail at the same time. In 1870, Lumberton had a population of 403 residents; by 1880 it had increased to 1,000 residents and by 1900 it had reached 2,500 residents. The1900 census counted 248 male citizens over 25 years old and 113 female citizens over 25 years old; for all age groups there were 404 male citizens (of which only 26 were over 25) and 261 female citizens (of which only 45 were over 25). By 1910 there remained 296 malecitizens aged 15 or younger while 535 females aged 15 or younger lived in Lumberton proper; 205 males aged 50 or older lived in Lumberton Proper while none resided inside any other municipality within Robeson County except for Tellico Plains where seven individuals lived out of total population size of 910 people age 10–19 according to 1910 census results: three black men employed at white businesses in nearby towns—one cigar maker/packer two wagon drivers—and four white women working as housewives or domestic servants outside their home villages around Tellico Plains during that year’s summer high school term between July 4th through Labor Day weekend—the largest student body ever registered at that institution during that time period including today’s students who attend public schools throughout metropolis Charlotte Amalie Island off shore from downtown Wilmington sister city Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish mainland Uptown Charlotte Amalie Island During this prohibition era intra-community drinking was discouraged however inter-village tavern drinking occurred freely thanks to many African Americans who owned local residences adjacent unto popular interracial street markets providing ample opportunities for purchase daily supplies essential for sustenance without having illicitly sell liquor controlled by state law enforcement authorities responsible for enforcing state alcohol regulations As noted above numerous portrait busts remain extant demonstrating overwhelming African American economic power & influence early 20th century thru most recently documented thru research done by author himself & others several hundred black men & women are documented buried & commemorated locally along with descendants scattered throughout southeastern NC—virtually all living descendants remaining connected via oral history traditions

Lumberton is a town in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1855 by refugees from the American Civil War. The population was 9,867 at the 2010 census. Lumberton is part of the Durham–Chapel Hill Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town of Lumberton was first settled by refugees from the American Civil War who had fled to northern Carolina from South Carolina and Georgia. The original settlers were Methodist Episcopalians and many were women. In 1855, John Sutherlin became the first mayor of Lumberton after being elected to that position from a field election. At its peak in 1870, Lumberton had a population of 10,000 people. However, due to high taxes levied on lumber exports and other industry growth in Durham County during this time period, Lumberton's economy declined beginning in the early 20th century until it regained its former prosperity during World War II when increased military production localized much of NC's forested area near downtown Durham making Loggerhead Woods one of the most heavily logged areas in North America. Today there are only a few small towns left scattered throughout eastern North Carolina with no large city as close to major manufacturing or research facilities as Durham did prior to-WWII; Raleigh (the state capital) has replaced Chapel Hill asDurham's main center for economic development over recent decades while Chapel Hill has become more an educational and cultural center with many new businesses established around it since then - including several startups which originated within Raleigh itself - but Lumberton remains an important agricultural center serving both rural and suburban residents with some 5500 acres (2 million m²) of land irrigated through numerous water systems providing about 850 jobs statewide including 400 for woodworkers alone In 1916 Jethro Tull composed his song "Lumberton" about life inLoggerhead Woods just outsideof town
