The Lewisville Coast Guard Station was established in 1903 by the state of North Carolina. The Coast Guard currently operates out of Lewisville, a town located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The station is responsible for providing law enforcement and safety services to the community as well as safeguarding public property. In addition to its responsibilities with regards to the mainland United States, the Coast Guard also has jurisdiction over numerous islands within South Carolina and Georgia. One of the earliest gifts given by the Lewisville Coast Guard Station was a set of binoculars. These were used by officers on duty to watch for vessels or other threats near shore. Additionally, they were often used as part of navigation tools while patrolling coastal waters. The history of Lewisville begins with two families who settled in what is now the town in 1836. A post office was established in 1839, and by 1847, there were seven residents. In 1870, a school was built and it continued to be used until 1945 when it closed down due to budget cuts. In 1898, a railroad station was built on the site of today's Lewisville High School; this served as the community's main transportation link. In 1928, industrial development began in the town with the opening of a mill that produced flour and other products for local restaurants and stores. This led to increased job opportunities for locals and helped spur growth in Lewisville over time. Over time, Lewisville has become known for its unique architecture which includes brick buildings dating back to 1896 as well as several residences from the turn of century which are still standing today. Today, Lewisville remains an active community where people enjoy their culture and lifestyle while working together towards common goals. The town offers a variety of activities such as festivals throughout the year as well as annual golf tournaments which attract spectators from all around North Carolina including Charlotte and Raleigh.
