The Lenoir Gun Club was founded in 1892. The club's first Glock pistol was donated by George A. Schaefer, a gunsmith and member of the Lenoir Rifle Association. In 1902, the Lenoir Pistol Club was organized and began to shoot at local range facilities. The club prospered through the years and in 1925, it acquired its own field which is now used for target shooting. The Lenoir Gun Club has continued to grow and improve its shooting abilities through donations from members and guests alike over the years. Today, the club offers memberships as well as private shoots for individuals or groups of friends. On February 5th, 1865, General John Pemberton arrived in Lenoir with 1,500 men on horseback to take possession of what would become known as Lake Norman (now I- 85). He named this area "Lenoir" after his friend Rev. Dr. James Ligonier who had served as pastor at Roman Catholic church located on Wright Street in Charlotteville (nowLenoir). As part of Pemberton's military occupation of North Carolina during the American Civil War, many white citizens chose not to enroll their children in school because they could not bring themselves to fight on behalf of an unjust government that oppresses them financially while others are fighting for independence under Confederate banner. Many African Americans also served in Confederate forces or black militias which made up a significant portion of the population throughout much of 1861-1865; however most did not join either side until after Union troops invaded their homes and towns during Spring 1862. In 1865 when General Pemberton arrived inLenoir he found 2 small plantations where some white farmers still owned land although it had been seized by General Lee pursuant to his Fourteenth Amendment proclamation abolishing slavery throughout all US territories annexed by Confederate States of America since 1861! When General Pemberton asked one farmer if he wanted his land back he replied "No sir I never did own no place afore I give it up." That same year (1865), about 10 percent ofLenoir's residents were African Americans! By 1870 only 3 percentofLenoir residents were African Americans but by 1875 that figure skyrocketed to almost 50%. Additionally there were many freedmen living within miles radiusofLenoir including those aforementioned mentioned plantation owners; however due mainly to lack transportation these people were unable or unwillingto return home following emancipation . Some black soldiers stationed nearby returned home after their term ended but more decided against returning home than returning with supplies & weapons knowing they would be welcome nowhere else except behind bars should they ever again attempt secessionist activities! As previously stated many Africans American fought alongside Confederate forces or black militias throughout 1861-1865 but few have left eyewitness accounts documenting their experiences nor any physical evidence testifying thereto like extant plantation records or contemporary county courthouse documents do; though anecdotal evidence suggests some blacks may have briefly visited northern states prior to Appomattox Court House surrendering all property & equipment southward rather then attempting reentry intoUnion territory upon learning hostilities had come to an end (& most likely occurring before actual surrender due November 9th) . Consequently very little is known about early African American shooters/combatants serving withinUSConfederate service regions such as North Carolina during this period other than what can be gleaned from surviving memoirs written by former slaves/soldiers themselves

Lenoir was founded in 1796 by Loyal North Carolina troops. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 1,500 people. Lenoir became an important railway center, and its location made it a natural place to found businesses and industries. The town also played an important role in the development of the South Carolina Railroad. Lenoir is now a small community with a population of around 50 people. Lenoir is bordered by Campbell County to the north, Buncombe County to the east, and Bladen County to the south. It has a total area of just over 21 square miles. The climate in Lenoir is humid subtropical, with average monthly temperatures ranging from 0-40 degrees Fahrenheit. There are no significant hills or mountains in Lenoir, so most activities take place on flat ground or near water supplies. Lenoir was named for General John Forbes Lennooke (1757-1829), who fought in several American Revolutionary Wars as a colonel under British command. After his surrender at Yorktown in 1783, Lennooke served as governor of South Carolina for two years before returning home to join his regiment which participated in the Battle of Saratoga that same year. In 1796 he purchased land near what is now Lenoir from Captain Samuel Johnston for $5 per acre ($33 per km2). Lennooke set up shop here and began trading goods with other parts of North Carolina and Virginia. He built several homes here including one known as "The Georgian". In 1819 Colonel John Pemberton commanded an expedition against the Cherokee Nation led by General Andrew Jackson This campaign resulted in decisive victory over Cherokee forces at Battle Hanging Rock nearpresent day Phenix City,. On October 2nd 1819 General Pemberton presented Lieutenant Colonel James Fayette Marshall with a gold cup inscribed "For Military Valor"for leading this successful action against Cherokee rebels

Lenoir, North Carolina is a town in Tyrrell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. The name Lenoir comes from the Cherokee word "lènải" meaning "happy." The first settler in Lenoir was John Dickson who arrived about 1795. A post office called Lenoir was established in 1827 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1837. Lenoir is located on U.S. Route 74 east of Raleigh and west of Chapel Hill. According to the 2010 census,Lenoir has a total area of , all land. The history of Lenoir began with settlers coming to this area around 1795. John Dickson and his family were the first to reside here after arriving from Scotland by way of Wilmington, Delaware on May 25 that year. They set up a cabin near what is now Main Street and built their home out of logs they took down from trees along the creek which they named “Dickson” Creek because they found it so happy or peaceful when walking there daily as children did before white men came into the forest to hunt game for them! In 1800-1801 Zebulon Pike surveyed part of what is now Tyrrell County; he named it Pike’s Valley after General James Peebles (1756-1825), an American Revolutionary War general who fought against British forces at Saratoga Springs (modern Albany). After purchasing land hereabouts from Native Americans including many chiefs Sekumseh and Wekandahuna as well as other Cherokees soon after his surveyor’s visit on October 11, 1800 he laid out streets grids north/southwest/east/west within present day Tyrrell County boundaries – one half mile wide with each house having two front doors facing east/west Streets were also numbered starting with 4th street south then 2nd street east then 1st street north then 3rd street northeast cornering onto present day US 74 just past where current intersection US74 & Chapel Hill Rd are today! When General James Peebles died without leaving issue his heirs sold much of their holdings back to groups led by Andrew Johnson but some parcels still remain underlyingpresent day Tyrrell County boundaries NOTE: Andrew Johnson donated land between Hillsborough Rd & US74 approx ½ mile northwest thereof becoming known as Johnson Park !!! By 1802 Peele’s Valley had acquired its name change reflecting growing commercial activity developing along its banks resulting variously in corn whiskey distillery founded by Scotsman Robert Stevenson (1786-1851) brickyard & sawmill opened nearby 1830 ext chain grocery store established 1860 prostitution became legalized 1865 & later renamed Female Social Club !! On July 5th 1861 Govtr Johnston issued proclamation designating certain areas within present borders of Buncombe county including partslying portions adjoining TyrellCounty limits bounded by: Onthe north by Catawba Mountain range extending NORTHWESTLY to latitude 30 degrees N; Onthe south by Yadkin River extendING SOUTHEASTLY TO WESTERN LONGitude 24 degrees W; AndOnthe west by UNC Forest lying SOUTHWESTLY To SHORT Latitude 29 degrees N Thurstonville Road lies lying NEARBYAND joining UNC Forest just beyond entrance hereinof At 9 PM on July 12th 1861 Confederate Colonel David Harnett made public proclamation setting off battle between Federal troops under Brigadier General William TecUMseh Sherman near Rocky Mount town line In following days skirmishes ensued elsewhere within Buncombe county culminating at night near present day junction OF US 74& NC State Highway 28 miles SSW Of Rocky Mount Our battles occurred during operations leading up to April 14th 1865 when Confederate Forces surrendered southern part OF Buncombe Co This event helped solidify rebel control over eastern KY following April 14th Appomattox Court House Compound collapseig Union Armies retreat thru Rocky Mount Cherokee Nation surrendered unconditionally January 16th 1865
