The Lenoir Coast Guard Station was established in 1907. The station is one of the oldest and most active coast guard stations in the state of North Carolina. Lenoir is a town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro–Winston-Salem–High Point Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lenoir is located on the eastern edge of Henderson County and east of Raleigh. The first Europeans to visit Lenoir were French in 1619 and English in 1624. In 1731, General James Moorehead built Fort Myer near present-day Lenoir after raiding Cherokee villages along the Yadkin River for food and supplies. The fort served as a base of operations for military campaigns against Native Americans until 1785 when it was abandoned due to lack of resources. In 1814, Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded North Carolina from Virginia under the command of General Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson and marched through Lenoir on their way to Charlotte. Jackson's forces burned most of the town before reaching Winston-Salem about two weeks later. Aftermath: Over $2 million worth of damage was done to buildings and crops in Lenoir alone during Jackson's Invasion! Lenoir had a post office from 1872 until 1959; its ZIP code was 27511 (then including parts of nearby High Point). In 1960, rural electrification began in Henderson County so that businesses could have power without having to go outside; this led to an increase in traffic because people no longer needed their cars for transportation purposes only while they worked or played outside; as a result, much business activity moved away from Lenoir into neighboring towns which share one zip code such as High Point or Chapel Hill beginning around 1978 until all but one were abolished by 2007 when electric service became available everywhere within city limits with no business exception (the lone exception being Uptown Chapel Hill which has since annexed downtown Highpoint). Lenoir also received notoriety for being home to "The World's Largest Gothnik" - communitywide parties where people dressed like goths/edgy teenagers attending college campuses across America would congregate together at local bars and clubs who would then eat pizza while playing music throughout the night

Lenoir is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Lenoir County and was founded in 1825. Lenoir is located on the Cumberland River, about 12 miles (19 km) north-northwest of Asheville. Lenoir was platted in 1825 by Colonel John Gorman and Captain James Lenoir as part of a strategic location for trading with Indian nations and providing access to resources such as coal, iron ore, lumber, and natural gas. The first settler was Mr. Crouse. In 1828, General George Johnston's army invaded North Carolina from Georgia and by September had reached Lenoir; Johnston called for a volunteer brigade to help him take care of the Native Americans living there who "were not fit to be contrived under any other government". In 1830 Lt Col David Neill established a military post at present-day Lenoir which functioned until February 1865 when Confederate General Robert Ewell's army burned it down while retreating from Durhamtown during the Battle of Durhamtown Heights. The community grew rapidly due to its location along railroad lines and easy access to markets in both eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina. By 1840, Lenoir had 300 residents with seven stores and two churches; by 1850 it boasted over 1,000 residents with twenty stores and six churches plus an academy/university that educated local women into respectable citizenship around this time). In 1859–60 General Jubal Early's army passed through Lenoir on their way eastward; early evidence suggests that many people in the community were either taken prisoner or killed as they slept because they could not flee quickly enough after news spread through the countryside thatGeneral Early was en route to Charlottesville.* Lenoir experienced some economic setbacks during Reconstruction following World War I but regained most of its former prosperity soon afterwards thanks to federal largesse programs like Head Start (which helped low-income mothers enter kindergarten), agricultural diversification initiatives (eased debt burdens among farmers through loans available only to those who produced crops worth more than their total costs), new oil production coming online during the 1920s (*the first significant shipment of oil pulled upriver from Tarboro arrived here on May 11th 1924*), increased tourism (*the popularity of Lake Norman made hiking/kayaking opportunities available year-round*)and assorted other innovations†† such as electric lightening service*, freezers*, businesses*(*elleisure services became prevalent in this period due largely to advances within refrigeration technology*)) . Lenoir was a small town in North Carolina during the 1800s. The area now known as Lenoir County was originally part of Transylvania County, which was created in 1788 from parts of Orange and Dare counties. The first settler in Lenoir County was James Lenoir, who arrived in 1792. Lenoir had a population of only 100 people when it became part of Transylvania County. In 1813, the United States acquired what is now Kentucky and Tennessee as part of the Mexican-American War. This event led to the creation of new U.S. Territories including those two lands, and Lenoir's population increased significantly because people were moved to these new areas to fight for their country. In 1821, Transylvania county was abolished and merged into newly formed Campbell County; however, Lenoir continued to exist as a separate community until 1832 when it also merged into Campbell County. Lenoir experienced some growth during the 1830s due to its location on major trade routes between North Carolina and other states. These days, much of what used to be downtownlenior still stands today although a number of businesses have relocated or closed since then due to changing demographics or competition from larger neighboring townships or counties. In 1851,Lenoir's last slave owner died; however, slavery continued legal throughout most if not all of North Carolina through the 1850s due to Section 20 (a law passed by Congress following the American Revolution that allowed slaves owned by white men living within certain rebel-controlled territories in present day Alabama and Mississippi free without gainful employment)compliance until 1865 when all slaves in these territories were freed under Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation (specifically freeing those living in Confederate States).
