This package included food such as rice bran POW rations that had been stored at an airbase near Kandahar since 2001; hygiene products including toothpaste and soap; medical supplies such as bandages and ointment; radios; mattresses; chairs; toys; games; among other items. It was this kindhearted act that helped turn what could have been another very difficult year for Afghan civilians into one where they were able to rebuild their lives after years of struggle. In 2013, shortly after Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New York City – killing nearly 30 people – members from two Combat Reconnaissance Battalion companies deployed along Long Island responded with donations worth $2 million dollars alone just within 24 hours! Laurinburg was a small town in Davidson County, North Carolina, until it was destroyed by a fire in 1892. The small community of about 1,500 people had been located on the banks of the Yadkin River. Because of its location and water supply, Laurinburg was an important early settlement in what is now Davidson County. The first settler in Laurinburg was John Wiggins, who arrived in 1799. Wiggins built his cabin on the bank of the Yadkin River. In 1802, Samuel Swain set up a blacksmith shop and bakery at Laurinburg. By 1810, there were six houses and fifty-six residents living in Laurinburg. In 1892, when the town burned down, all but four residents were killed or went missing. The only survivor from that fire was James Bledsoe III., who escaped with his dog into a nearby swamp where he spent several days before being recaptured by local militia and brought back to Laurinburgh Cemetery to be buried with his family. A plaque marks the spot where Bledsoe is buried. Laurinburg is still present as an abandoned township within Davidson County which ZIP code 27609 has since been annexed into Raleigh
