Kinston is a small town located in North Carolina. The population was 10,502 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kinston County and the largest city in the county by population. The general store and post office are both located in Kinston. The first humans to live in what is now Kinston wereechi who settled there around 3000 BC. There are several theories about where they came from, but one theory suggests that they may have come from India or Southeast Asia. Some believe that these early settlers were part of a large group that traveled through the Carolinas looking for new land to settle. In 1814, a group of men under the leadership of Colonel John Cushing arrived in Kinston and began building houses and erecting fences on present-day State Street. This event helped start what would become Kinston’s history as an agricultural community with markets and schools being established soon after. In 1836, Captain William Findlay constructed a sawmill on present-day Tryon Street which helped to boost the economy of Kinston during its early years. Captain Findlay also donated land to make way for what is now First Baptist Church, which was built in 1839 onpresent day York Street. Reverend James Witherspoon organized what would eventually become Presbyterianism inKinston back in 1794, making it one of the earliest churches west of Appalachia! In 1865, when North Carolina seceded from Union America, Kinston became an important center for Confederate troops during this time period because it had many military installations nearby such as Fort Fisher and Petersburg munitions factory! Although violent times prevailed here during this time period due to economic reasons, much has changed since then including advances within technology which has led to increased business opportunities for kinSTONians! Today, Kinston enjoys widespread recognition as an innovation hub both domestically and internationally due to its diverse businesses and talented citizens!

Kinston, North Carolina, is a city in and the county seat of Kinston County, North Carolina. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. The town has been inhabited by people since the early 17th century. It was first settled by Scots-Irish settlers who named their settlement "Kinnaird" after their kinsman, John Kinnaird of Ballygorman Castle in County Antrim, Ireland. In 1802, a group of Englishmen led by General Nathaniel Banks landed on the coast of present-day Kinston to establish a military post against Native Americans known as Fort Fisher. The town's name comes from its location near the fort. In 1824, President James K. Polk founded what is now UNC Chapel Hill in nearby Durham and moved NC State University to Kinston in 1876. At that time Kinston had about 100 residents and included land around what is now downtown and parts of what are today east and west streets. By 1870, however, it had grown to over 1,000 residents with many businesses and two churches located alongeast Market Street (now Tryon Street). Construction on Duke University's main campus began in earnest in 1886 and soon Kinston became part of the new university community as well as one of the most important economic engines within Durham County during this period. During World War II much activity took place here including production for munitions plants at RAF Fylde used for strategic bombing; development at Triangle Aircraft Corporation; work at First National Bank Building; Army Ammunition Plant; Raleigh Shipbuilding Company’s launch services facility; aircraft manufacturing facilities operated by Textron Aviation Industries Inc.; Paper Dynamics Corporation (later Dynegy Corporation); American Tobacco Company Research Laboratories; local blacksmith shops engaged in forging aluminum cans etc.; Ford Motor Company’s final assembly plant for Thunderbird sedans here until 1963 when it relocated to Maryland]; textile mills such as Mills No1 & 2 which produced millions of yards of cloth per week until they closed down due to competition from imports during this period The city experienced rapid growth following World War II as new industries sprang up all around it – heavy industry such as steelmaking being among them – while downtown remained vibrant with many small businesses continuing to operate into the 1960s despite advances in transportation technology that made shopping closer to home more accessible than ever before.
