Kings Mountain is a town in bladen County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kings Mountain was founded in 1753 by royal decree from King George II of Great Britain as a site for an military fortification against Native Americans. The first settler, John Forbes, arrived in 1755 and named the settlement after his native land, Scotland. In 1819, Kings Mountain became part of North Carolina when it was created from Wake County. In 1834, Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest began construction of what would become Fort Knox on Kings Mountain's summit; this fort served as an early warning system for North Carolina during the Civil War and provided supplies and shelter to Confederate soldiers during their fight against Union forces. For many years afterward, Fort Knox functioned as a museum open to the public. The town of Kings Mountain was incorporated on December 10, 1930. At that time it had a population of 692 people living in 73 buildings total (the only building being constructed before 1931). On October 8th 2006 King's mountain had its own tornado outbreak which destroyed 4 homes including one belonging to royce king himself!

Kings Mountain is a mountain located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The peak, which is also known as Mount Mitchell, rises to an elevation of 5,362 feet (1,827 m). The first white settlers arrived at Kings Mountain in 1819 and began developing its resources. By 1848, about 1,500 people lived on Kings Mountain with 160 businesses employing more than 300 workers. In 1875, when the Charlotte and Raleigh Railroad reached Kings Mountain from nearby Charlotte through Cherokee County, traffic increased so much that a toll road was built to accommodate it. The toll road became known as the King's Highway and still operates today as part of I-85 corridor east of Greensboro. In 1916, King's Mountain National Military Park was established adjacent to Kings Mountain National Cemetery with an area of 9 square miles (23 km2). Today there are over 20 million visitors annually to this park which features trails that wind around its rugged peaks and valleys; picnic areas; museum exhibits on military history; and educational experiences for all ages including interpretive programs on different aspects of national military history such as cannons being fired from Fort Sumter during the American Civil War or battles fought at Stonecliffe Farms near Salisburytown during World War II.

The Hessian forces under General George Washington wereVS army marching to attack British troops entrenched on the mountain when they came across a detachment of Loyalists led by Colonel John Brown.
