One was called The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and the other was called The Tiki Room. There is no one definitive history of gourmet coffee. However, there are a number of distinct periods in which coffee was enjoyed as an esteemed commodity. The first recorded use of coffee as a drinkable beverage came in India in the 6th century BC. In the Middle Ages, Arabic traders brought coffee overland to Europe and Asia. Coffee became popular in England during the 15th century and it was later exported to continental Europe and North America. In 1795, French scientist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon developed a method for brewing coffee that would eventually be patented under his name. During this time, European countries began to import more beans from Africa and South America, giving rise to the roasting tradition that we now enjoy.
In 1827, North Carolina became the 6th state in the United States. The area that would become known as North Carolina was originally inhabited by the Cherokee nation. In 1740, a group of Englishmen led by General James Johnston explored and map what is now North Carolina. They named their new land "Cherokee Nation" after their own nations in present-day Georgia and Tennessee. North Carolina became a part of Virginia on July 4, 1776. On November 12, 1781, Congress passed an act granting Kentucky to Virginia as well as West Virginia and parts of South Carolina and Florida. This left North Carolina with just two states: Caroline (now Charlotte) and Stephens County (now Durham). The early history of Indian Trail can be traced back to December 5, 1800 when Colonel John Cushing discovered land east of the Catawba River within present day Durhamlette County. He offered it for sale to any person who could show him five years’ title to it from a white man or his wife’s father or husband. There were no white men living in this area at that time so Cushing had to content himself with selling rights to future white settlers instead. Due to this lack of development in the area over the next few decades, many Native Americans continued refer to Indian Trail as "the Wilderness Road." However, construction actually began on what would eventually become Indian Trail somewhat later than initially thought due primarily to advances in transportation technology such as railroads which made traveling between points much easier than previous methods such as walking or horseback riding. In 1869–70 Captain John Pope came across an abandoned wagon road along Watauga Creek near present day Sanford while exploring southern Aiken County looking for a passage into Mobile Bay through Asuncion Land Reserve which he owned adjacent to modern-day Fayetteville. After finding nothing better he abandoned his plans for a railroad linking Charlotte with Aiken County but later revived them when he learned about IndianTrail's potential significance for cross country transportation between Raleigh and Wilmington despite itsaccessibility only from eastern Wake County . Indian Trail's completion not only allowed goods necessary for manufacturing throughout the region without havingto navigateriver systems but also opened up new territory for settlement making it one of America's most significant infrastructure projects during its earliest days
