The history of the navy in Huntersville, North Carolina dates back to 1851. On that date, a group of men from Raleigh, North Carolina founded the first Marine Corps Reserve Officers’ Training School. The school was initially located at what is now Fayetteville State University and was known as the North Carolina Naval Militia School. After two years of operation, the school relocated to Huntersville in 1853 and became known as Naval Academy Station (NAVY). In 1875, NAVY station moved again when it was redesignated Naval Air Station Roanoke (NASR). NASR would become one of the most important naval airfields in America after World War II. With its proximity to Charleston, NASR increasingly served as a primary hub for military aviation operations during peacetime as well. In 1955, NASR changed its name to Naval Air Station Raleigh (NARL). NARL would play an even more important role in American naval aviation during World War II than it did during peacetime due to its location on Hilton Head Island close to Charleston. During World War II, NARL played an important role in training pilots for both U.S. Navy fighter planes and Japanese Navy bombers such as Honshū Maru No 901 aircraft. Additionally, NARL also played a key role in support of Allied forces operating against Nazi Germany during Operation Overlord by providing air cover for U-boat patrols andSupports air base operations throughout Normandy France. As American military forces withdrew from Europe following World War II, NASR came under control of Commander First Fleet Atlantic United States (CFPFLUSH) which later became Commandant Third Marine Division (3rd MD) headquartered at Camp Lejeune AFB NC from 1951 until 1990 when it transferred to Commandant Fifth Marine Division (5th MD) based at Miramar AFB CA until 1994 when it transferred to Commander Sixth Marine Division (6th MD) based at Quantico AFB VA until 2000 when it merged with First Fleet Antioquia Guantanamo Bay Puerto Ricobased FIRST FLIGHT-ANTIOQUIA GUTIERREZ commandant who concurrently Commands all six USMC Divisions currently stationed here

Huntersville is a town in Duplin County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Huntersville was Englishman John Lawson in 1719. In 1892, Jesse Fenton opened the initial grocery store in town which became one of its most successful businesses until it closed its doors in 1978. In 1904 local farmers organized a group to purchase 3 acres (1 km2) of land from Jearl McDowell for $5 per acre (0.24 ha). This small parcel would become known as "The Farm" and would be used for farming and ranching until 1959 when it became home to Southside High School which still stands today as one of North Carolina's largest high schools. In 1925 local businessmen formed a civic organization called the “Towne Crier” Club with the goal of beautifying downtown Huntsville with new streetscape improvements and developing special events like Fourth Of July celebrations or carnival games etcetera which were given away free to residents of Huntstown through their club memberships/donations). On July 15th 1926 – Memorial Day – there was an event that marks history as “the day that Huntington Biltmore Corporation erected their new corporate headquarters located on Main Street just east of University Boulevard” this event marked the beginning of what would become known as “Huntersville” name change from Johnsborough to Huntersville’s current moniker reflecting not only its changes over time but also advances made within Huntsvill
