On November 3rd, 1941, during World War II Japanese forces invaded North Carolina and burned down many homes and businesses along with much of downtown Huntsville; this event is also known as "The Day The Battle Began". On October 16th 1960- Seaweed restaurant became NC's first sushi restaurant when they opened their new location at 1401 University Blvd N../N/A (now part of JCPenney). The current owner/operator is Yoshihide Tanaka who has been running Seaweed since 1978

However, growth has resumed since 2000 thanks to new development in the area.
