The town was founded in 1836 by General David Hunter and his wife Sarah Goodloe. In 1861, it became part of the Union army during the American Civil War as part of Johnston's Army Corps. Huntersville is a city in Tyrell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Metropolitan Area. The area that now Huntersville was first settled by Cherokees in the late 18th century. A post office called "Huntersville" was established in 1842, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1931. The settlement grew around the local processor of Indian corn, J.B. Huntley & Company. By 1860, Huntersville had a population of 1,500 people and consisted of only two buildings—a store and a schoolhouse—though some homes were built as early as 1798 on land purchased from the Cherokee nation for $10 per acre (4 hectares). In 1865, J.B.'s son James Batson Huntley founded what would become known as Huntsville Manufacturing Company which manufactured hats and other items for farmers throughout central and eastern North Carolina. From its inception until 1911 it employed more than 2,000 workers; many of these men took home paychecks that they mailed to their families back home in northeast Georgia or northwest Florida while they worked at the company’s factory locations across central North Carolina: Henderson Mill (now Gaston), Wilson Mill (now Wilkesboro), Shearer’s Mills (now Elizabethtown), Pittston Village (now Monroe), Davidson Mills (later into Johnston County), Doaks Corners (later into Garrard County)—all located within one-half mile of each other on NC 286 east of Pee Dee River Bridge near present day downtown Huntsville proper. At its height during World War I there were seventeen plants manufacturing munitions including machine guns and artillery ammunition; today only four remain active with over 1 million pieces produced since 1901 alone! Huntersville is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina, located on the Yadkin River. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County. The first permanent white people to live in what is now Huntersville were squatters who migrated from Scotland in 1799, and began farming land they had bought from the Cherokee Indians. In 1827, John Smithers organized a group of farmers who named themselves The Farmers' Alliance to promote agriculture and other economic development in Davidson County. They built a courthouse and store on First Street, which became known as the "Prominence Courts" district because it offered high-quality legal services to settlers and businesspeople throughout Davidson County. The town site that would later be called Huntersville was laid out by James Waddell in 1828, following his purchase of some land east of Chapel Hill from William Byrd II for $1 million (adjusted for inflation). By 1830, Waddell had started building homes on what would eventually become known as Park Avenue (now Duke Street). By 1840, however, most settlers had left or been forced out by Indian Wars and Reconstruction efforts that followed the American Civil War. Only four houses remain downtown today: two from before 1838, one built after Union troops burned down part of downtown during an attack on December 13th 1865; and one from 1922 when developer Jock Mahoney bulldozed an old cotton gin into Park Avenue so he could build a home there as part of his hunting lodge project

The town experienced several hard times during its early days but it eventually regained its prosperity thanks to various industries such as manufacturing, shipping, logging, farming, and tourism (especially during World War II). Unfortunately, however, Huntersville lost its status as an important town after World War II because of increased competition from larger towns such as Raleigh and Chapel Hill.
