Welcome to the history of Huntersville, North Carolina. There are many stories and events that have occurred in this small town over the years. Hunter's Creek was a natural place for hunters to gather food and trade goods with other tribes. It was also an important transportation route for goods and people during the early 1800s. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Huntersville were white farmers who started plowing into the softwood forests near present-day downtown on May 1, 1795. They named their new land "Huntersville" after General James Hunter, who fought in the American Revolution and later became a U.S. Senator from Tennessee. The first post office in North Carolina was established at Huntersville on November 30, 1803. By 1830, there were 2 churches in town – one Baptist and one Presbyterian – as well as 12 stores, 3 schools, 2 hotels/motels, 4 blacksmiths, 1 doctor (Drury), 1 jailer (Henderson), 1 store keeper (Ferguson), 2Articles of Agreement between two Cherokee nations entitled "The Treaty of New Echota," dated December 26th A[d]n 1828″ (1). During Reconstruction times in America following the Civil War, many African Americans moved to North Carolina looking for new opportunities after being removed from their homes south of Interstate 95 by Union troops under General Sherman's orders 1863-1865 including those from Huntsville located along Rutherford County lines The townsfolk played an active role in helping these refugees find housing and support as they awaited word back home about whether or not they would be given citizenship or freedom. In 1865-1868 local blacksmith John Hinton operated a forge outside of town which furnished shoes for Confederate soldiers fighting against Yankees inside America (). After Union forces retreated from Raleigh Johnson's Wool merchants reopened his store at 401 Main Street () renamed it "The State House" due to its location within easy proximity of military supplies such as woolen uniforms for Confederate soldiers) before eventually closing it down operations due to heavy federal regulation governingopening hours during Reconstruction days (). At least 15 AfricanAmerican men worked at The State House until 1973 when Jim Crow Laws began seeping into America again through education laws passed by white legislatures . Huntersville was founded in 1792 by Captain James Robertson, who named it for his brother-in-law, Sir John Hunter. The town was first called "Northampton" before changing its name to "Huntersville" in 1835. In 1861, the state of North Carolina designated Huntersville as the county seat of Graham County. The town continued to be the county seat until 1923 when Raleigh became the new county seat.
