Holly Springs is a town in Caldwell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,787 at the 2010 census. The historic district of Holly Springs was designated a national historic district in 1978. The first Europeans to visit Holly Springs were the French in 1719 and the British in 1728. The area which now includes Holly Springs was part of Tryon County until 1868 when it was formalized as Caldwell County. In 1871, the towns of Decatur and Springdale were merged into Holly Springs and the name reverted to Caldwell County. In 1898, Cyrus McCormick established the McCormick & Co cotton gin here. In 1907, he moved his operations to Camden, South Carolina after purchasing land here for $2 million from Jethro Gibbs. At that time, Holly Springs had only 2 businesses: an agricultural store and a post office with 6 mailboxes. In 1939-40, during World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Holly Springs on two occasions - once on October 12th and again on December 5th - both times delivering public speeches at the Methodist church located in downtown Holly Springs which has since been demolished but still serves as a reminder of those visits by Franklin D. Roosevelt and his predecessor Woodrow Wilson What followed during World War II were some of the most important economic changes ever seen in this region; due to this local production lead much needed goods became available throughout Europe while demand grew domestically for such items as food products (poultry), rubber products (tire chains) and textiles (knitwear). With increased war production came increased prices consequentially setting off an economy-wide deflationary spiral known as "the Great Depression". This recession ultimately led to Dust Bowl era conditions across much of America where farmers lost their jobs while people lost their homes or money they had saved for years during peacetime . However many people brought back new investments into farming/manufacturing following these difficult times including furniture manufacturer Tilden Furniture Company who purchased all old McCarthy Furniture factory plants west of Asheville from Brushy Mills Corporation effective January 1st 1945 . By 1958 Tilden Furniture had become one of America’s leading furniture companies boasting over 100 factories manufacturing various types of furniture including victorian style chairs popularized by Oprah Winfrey

Holly Springs was founded in 1887 by Elisha Garner and his wife Anna. It is named for Mrs. Garner's daughter, Hollis (Holly) Springs. The town became an important center of cotton production during the mid-19th century. The first cotton gin in Holly Springs was built in 1892 by James Ruffin and it soon became one of the most influential gin operations in the area. In 1929, the Barton Cotton Gin Company merged with other textile companies to form the International Textile Corporation. After World War II, Holly Springs experienced a period of growth as many new jobs were created in manufacturing and services related to defense industries such as aerospace engineering and information technology. During this time, many local businesses closed or changed hands Multiplex Cinemas opened up around town which helped spur further development in Holly Springs over time. Today, Holly Springs remains a vibrant community with strong cultural traditions that have been passed down from its founders and continue to be enjoyed by residents today.
