The town is home to two high schools: Presbyterian Academy and Duke University's Chapel Hill Campus High School which share a common athletic program and both are members of NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). There are also several local businesses such as grocery stores and pizzerias located throughout town which offer quality food at reasonable prices for locals and visitors alike. As an agricultural community for many years before becoming an urban center due to suburban development around it over time, Havelock has been especially responsible for giving birth to some important crops like corn (maize), soybeans (soy sauce), cottonseed oil/linseed oil/cottonseed meal production etc., while also developing poultry operations including egg farming/fryer production etc.; currently there are about 20 chicken operations operating hereabouts employing 300-500 workers across various sites providing feedlot support services directly or through contracted out facilities elsewhere within North Carolina or other neighboring states etc.).
