The coffee beans that Portugal grew became one of the world’s most famous coffees. In 1755, an American sailor named Christopher Columbus discovered India and Asia while sailing through these waters. He learned about Indian spices that could be used to make roasted coffee beans and he brought some of these spices back to America with him when he returned from his voyage in 1492 AD. From then on, roasted coffee became popular in America because it was cheaper than other types of drinks at this time. As more people started drinking coffee, their establishments began serving different kinds of cups of java – iced or hot – so that everyone could enjoy their favorite beverage without having to go out searching for a particular type of cup of coffee!

Gastonia, North Carolina is a city in Gaston County, North Carolina. The population was 27,812 at the 2010 census. Gastonia is the county seat of Gaston County. It is named after General Andrew Johnson and was established as a town on December 1, 1831. The original site of Gastonia was 5 miles (8 km) northeast of present-day downtown Gastonia. A post office called Gastonia was established in 1836 and remained in operation until 1906. Gastonia has a rich history dating back to its settlement by English settlers in the late eighteenth century. The first settler in what is now Gastonia Township was James Henson on February 15, 1793. By 1800, there were twelve families living in what is now Gaston County and five of these had arrived from England riding horses or wagon trains overland from Philadelphia through Raleigh and Lynchburg to find land that would become their new home. The early history of the town reflects this diversity: one family owned all of the property within its current boundaries; another operated a gristmill; still others farmed rice and tobacco; while three blacksmithsmiths managed shops providing services such as repair work on farm equipment or forging nails for businesses around town. One key figure who helped make Gaston an important center during this time was Reverend John Coker Sr., who served as pastor at First Baptist Church from 1833 until his death in 1865. Mr. Coker's ministry influenced many aspects of today's culture including education, cuisine, politics and religion – he helped develop Methodism into an international force across America during his time as pastor here at First Baptist Churchndaverstroying any barriers between slaveholders' households and slaves working side by side on plantations throughout his tenure). Gastonia was founded by the Carr brothers in 1827. They were a Welsh-born family who came to North Carolina to located a plantation. Gastonia became a thriving community, with cotton plantations and mills, until the American Civil War. The town was destroyed by fire in 1865, but it quickly rebuilt and prospered again during Reconstruction. In the late 1800s Gastonia experienced growth as an educational center due to its location on the University of South Carolina's campus. In addition, Gastonians enjoyed many cultural attractions including art galleries, theaters, and symphony orchestras. However, in the 1920s Gastonia lost its status as a metropolitan city and saw significant declines in its economic activity. During this time many residents moved away for lack of opportunity or because of political instability. However, during World War II Gastonia resumed its role as an agricultural center with substantial production of crops such as corn, soybeans, cottonseed oil, and tobacco. Additionally, gastonians played an important role in helping support the Allied effort during World War II by creating jobs in defense manufacturing and other fields. Unfortunately following the war these sectors of the economy began to decline again which led to some Ravenswood residents moving back into their old homes while others left for new opportunities outside of Gastonia. Today there are few discernible remnants from Gastonia's past except for some small neighborhoods that remain close-knit communities based on shared values and experiences from previous eras. Despite these challenges, gastonians continue to makesignificant contributions both locally and nationally through their vibrant culture and entrepreneurial spirit
