Garner was founded in 1784, by Hugh Garner. The town was named for Sir John Garnder, 1st Baronet of Breda. In 1868, the town became a part of Greensboro, North Carolina. Garner is home to the Garner Museum and History Center which features exhibits on local history and culture as well as natural sciences and engineering artifacts from the area.
